Parkside School Homework Policy

  • The expectation is that all homework tasks are completed fully with all tasks attempted to the best that ability allows and handed in on time. Help and support is available in the faculty at the designated times - every lunchtime and each Thursday after school.
  • Any sub-standard homework not completed satisfactorily or non-completion of tasks set will result in an MFL intervention session at lunchtime with the class teacher.
  • All completed homework is awarded a grade 1-4 in line with the Big 4 along with a comment and P4P opportunity where appropriate/necessary.
  • All faculty staff are required to keep a log of the tasks set for each year group, these audits can be called for at any time.

MFL Homework Policy Key Stage 3 - Years 7, 8 and 9

  • A skills-based homework will be set fortnightly using a variety of formats to practise listening, reading, writing and speaking. Skills based homework will consist of short exercises to practise these skills. Extension tasks will allow the students to consolidate learning and be creative.
  • This homework should take no longer than one hourto complete.
  • Pupils will usuallybe given one week to complete the set task.

  • Written tasks, worksheets, incorporating the opportunity for a challenge task and an element of research and literacy.
  • Learning tasks, tested on the date due.
  • Revision tasks - learning and/or written.

Key Stage 4 - Years 10 and 11

  • Students will study for their GCSE. We follow the Edexcel Linear Specification. The exam consists of four final exam papers worth 25% each of the final GCSE (Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing at either Higher and Foundationlevel) which assess the skills learnt over the GCSE course.
  • Students will receive at least one homework in modern foreign languages each week, with an approximate duration of at least one hour.
  • It is expected that students consolidate their understanding with additional independent work, by at least 1 hour per week.

Key Stage 5 – Years 12 and 13

  • Students will study for their AS or A level examination. We follow theEdexcel exam board specification.
  • KS5 homework will be set by the teacher during and at the end of a particular unit of work. This may consist of exam questions or a variety of tasks set by the teacher.
  • The main focus for the Advanced level students will be to enable them todevelop their knowledge, skills and ability to read and listen and respondin the modern foreign language. They will be required to work independently to prepare extended spoken answers to a prescribed set of questions based around topic areas. They will work independently to write extended essays in specified topic areas.
  • Homework will be extensive and require in depth application by the students, it is also expected that students consolidate their understanding with additional independent work by at least 4 hours per week.
  • Students will be required to research and read around a subject and to follow current affairs in the target language.
  • In the run up to the exam, sections of exam papers and whole exam papers will be set to be completed independently. It would be expected that the students complete these within 1.5- 3 hours.
