We are pleased to update you about Kevin’s Fundand our2012 scholarship recipients.

Alexander Libre, this year’s $100,000 scholarship recipient as the most outstanding senior in the NorwalkHigh School class of 2012, will matriculate at DartmouthCollege in Hanover, New Hampshire.

Over the past several weeks Kevin’s Fund awarded six scholarships recognizing achievements in the areaswhichKevin participated and excelled.

On May 2nd Lauren Wallace of Lake Bluff, Illinois, received the $15,000 Kevin M. Eidt Memorial Scholarship awarded to the outstanding junior in the Boston College Carroll School of Management Honors Program. This scholarship is presented to the individual who, in the opinion of the faculty and administrators of the Honors Program, has demonstrated the unique combination of academic achievement, character, leadership, and school spirit similar to Kevin’s.

On May 24th, NorwalkHigh Schoolheld its annual awards assembly. In addition to recognizing Alexander Libreas scholarship recipient in front of his peers, their parents, and school teachers and administrators, Kevin’s Fund awarded the following scholarships:

  • $1,000 Orchestra Scholarship to Paige Henson for outstanding contributions to the orchestra program. Paige, who has been a member of he NHS string quartet which has played at our spring benefit dinner dance, will be attending St. Lawrence University.
  • $1,000 Scholar-Athlete Scholarship to Brian Manbyfor outstanding contributions to NorwalkHigh School both as a scholar and an athlete. Brian will be attending the University of Connecticut.

On June 11th, at the year end NorwalkHigh Schoolband banquet, Kevin’s Fund awarded the following scholarships:

  • $1,000 Marching Band Scholarship to Kathleen Gill presented to the four year member of the Marching Band with the highest cumulative grade point average, similar to Kevin’s achievement. Kathleen will be attending University of Connecticut.
  • $1,000 JazzScholarship to Michael O’Callaghan presented to the senior who has made an outstanding contribution to the Jazz program. Michael will also be attending the University of Connecticut.

On June 12th, Michael O’Callaghan was also awarded the $4,000 St. Jerome Youth Group scholarship at their year end graduation banquet. This scholarship is presented to the individual who, in the opinion of the Youth Group adult ministry team, has demonstrated outstanding commitment to the youth program and community and religious service similar to Kevin’s.

Congratulations to our recently graduated, 2008 scholarship recipients who have received financial support for the past four years:Alyxie Harrick ~ GeorgetownUniversity ~ (Norwalk High School Scholarship), Kelly Mills~ University of San Francisco~ (Marching Band Scholarship), and Nicholas Carroll ~ University of Connecticut~ (St. Jerome Youth Group Scholarship). Alyxie Harrick, the NorwalkHigh School scholarship recipient, will be working in theWashingtonDC office of Deloitte & Touche as an analyst in the strategy and operations division of their federal sector.

On April 18th the Boston College Eagle EMS, the student run Emergency Response Organization held its 3rd annual awards banquet which also commemorated the 15th anniversary of the organization’s founding. Eagle EMS was founded in 1997 by Mark Ritchie, a classmate of Kevin’s,who wanted to make sure future situations like Kevin’s could be met with the skill and resources which could mean the difference between life and death. In 2009 Eagle EMS established the Kevin M. Eidt Excellence Award which is presented annually to the most outstanding member of the organization. The 2012 recipient of Kevin’s award was Kevin Wickersham, class of ‘13 of Sammamish, Washington.

On May 31stNorwalkHigh School’s National Honor Society, whose chapter is named in Kevin’s memory, inducted 3 seniors and 43 juniors into the Honor Society. Those junior inductees who rank in the top 10% of their class, are US citizens, and will have completed a minimum of six semesters at NHS by the time of graduation are eligible to apply for the 2013 Norwalk High School scholarship.

For the upcoming fall semester, Kevin’s Fund will be providing financial support to 14 students matriculating at BostonCollege (3), Tufts, Holy Cross, Dartmouth, Temple, Stonehill, Connecticut (4), Bryant, and St Lawrence.

Our 14th annual golf tournament is scheduled for Sunday, September 30, 2012 at the Wayland County Club, Wayland MA, in connection with the BC – Clemson football weekend.

Our14th annual benefit dinner dance and scholarship presentation will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2013. Save the date and spread the word!

The Fund’s next update will be in November at which time we will announce the scholarshipswe will make available to the class of 2013.
