Your walking tour of Rome allows you to see the most famous Baroque monuments of the city. You'll be transferred to Rome by motorcoach and will start your day with a stop at the Trevi Fountain, one of Rome's most spectacular works of art. This is followed by a visit to the Pantheon, the biggest temple built by the Emperor Adriano and the best-preserved ancient Roman building. Head to Piazza Navona, the most beautiful Baroque square in Rome and home to the famous Fountain of the Four Rivers.

Pisa & Trolley Ride

Enjoy a short trolley ride that takes you directly to Miracle Square, next to the famous Leaning Tower. Your walking tour begins near Miracle Square. During World War II, much of Pisa was destroyed by German and Allied bombing, however the cathedral, baptistery and famous Leaning Tower escaped unharmed. There'll be some free time to admire the exterior of the campanile, better known as the Leaning Tower and enjoy some coffee or browse for souvenirs in Pisa before returning to your ship.

Wonders Of Lucca & Pisa

Combine two of the most famous Tuscan towns: Lucca, with a colorful history that stretches back to the days of the ancient Etruscans, and Pisa with its famous Field of Miracles with the cathedral, baptistery, and of course, the Leaning Tower. Arriving in Lucca, take a guided walk through the old town, which retains its Renaissance-vintage fortified walls. Stroll from piazza to piazza and learn the city's history through its architecture. The Duomo, Lucca's Romanesque cathedral dates from the 12th century and features a facade with elaborate relieves and columns. The Gothic interior features an image of Christ on the cross, supposedly carved by Nicodemus, a purported witness of the crucifixion. The Duomo also boasts Tintoretto's magnificent painting of the Last Supper. You'll have free time in Lucca to enjoy your activity of choice; explore, eat or shop!

Once a powerful maritime republic and a rival to Genoa and Venice, Pisa offers Renaissance splendor of its own. A short guided walk leads to the Field of Miracles where you'll receive a brief orientation on Pisan history. The Piazza is the site of Pisa's Duomo, baptistery, Campo Santo, and of course, the campanile – the famous Leaning Tower. Galileo is said to have used the 180-foot campanile during his experiments with gravity. Today, the tower leans 14-degrees from perpendicular. Recently reopened, admittance to the tower is limited and is not included in the excursion. You'll have plenty of photo and shopping opportunities on this tour.

Touring Monaco and Monte Carlo can involve a considerable amount of walking but you'll drive directly up to the district of Monte Carlo, where you'll find the Place du Casino, the Hotel de Paris, Cafe de Paris and the legendary Monte Carlo Casino. View the exterior of the magnificent casino and take some time to stroll along the luxury boutiques and cafes. Head up to Monaco Rock, where you'll walk the narrow streets of Old Monaco. Here you'll see the cathedral where Prince Rainier married Grace Kelly and where they are both now laid to rest. Your walking tour will bring you further to the Prince's Palace Square where you'll have free time to admire the exterior of the Grimaldi Palace and do some shopping.

Those able to climb the 170 steps to the top will be rewarded with a 360° panoramic view of Marseilles and the surrounding area. And if not, you'll still have a great view from the lookout point.

  • Discover the medieval charm of Aix en Provence on a walking tour to see some of its main sites. You'll visit Cours Mirabeau one of the most popular and lively areas in town. This wide avenue decorated with fountains and shaded by rows of trees is the central hub of Aix. The Saint Sauveur Cathedral is a unique building due to its combination of architectural styles that date from the 5th to the 17th century. Following the guided tour, you'll have some free time to shop, have lunch on your own at one of the lively cafes or to explore further. You'll meet your guide at a designated time and place for the return to Toulon.

Picturesque Cefalu

Visit Cefalu, a quaint fishing village where little has changed through the centuries, preserving its typical Sicilian charm and the atmosphere of a traditional fishing port. Syracusians, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs and Normans have left their traces here. It's one of the most visited destinations in Sicily and during summer months, the tourist population outnumbers the locals. Though little is known of its origins, the name "Cefalu" may date back from the Greek "Kephaloidion," a word referring to the rock overlooking the town. Your guide will share some of the legends with you. Drive through the main streets of Palermo to reach the highway.

As you travel to Cefalu, the verdant Sicilian countryside unfolds in front of you. Once in the village, visit the Gothic-Norman style Cathedral, founded in 1131 at the request of the Norman kings, and realized by Norman architects and Islamic craftsmen. Stop at the medieval wash house and imagine cool running water and the voices of the women doing the laundry as you walk among these ancient archways. You'll stop for a taste of some Sicilian specialties at a local gourmet shop. Enjoy free time to take in your activity of choice. There are lots of good restaurants serving the freshest seafood and shops of all sorts around the cathedral and harbor.

Note: There is approximately 1/2 mile and 2 ½ hrs of walking over paved, uneven and cobblestone surfaces with 30-40 steps. Walking during the free time is at guests' discretion. As tour visits a religious site, please dress appropriately. No bare shoulders or shorts are allowed. ^ less

Sorrento & Amalfi By Land & Sea

Enjoy a very scenic and relaxing excursion, experiencing Italy's most famous coastline by motor launch, with minimal walking involved, and time within the beautiful village of Sorrento. After an approximate one-hour drive by coach, you'll arrive at the town of Salerno, located at the very end of the Amalfi Coast. There you'll board a private motor launch for a 45 minute cruise, viewing the Dolomitic cliffs, which have been sculpted by nature into fantastic shapes. Amalfi is situated at the mouth of a deep gorge along the coast. Learn how this charming town was a major shipping port during the Middle Ages and an independent maritime state.

Enjoy a narrated walk around the town center of Amalfi, with your guide, who will explain the history and architecture of the Cathedral of St. Andrew as you marvel at the exterior architecture, a mix of Moorish and early Gothic design with 11th-century bronze doors from Constantinople. Enjoy some free time on your own in Amalfi for shopping or relaxing before cruising back to Salerno where your coach will be waiting to drive you to Sorrento. With its luxuriant vegetation and sun drenched climate, Sorrento became a favorite resort of wealthy Romans. Experience this cliff-top setting, with an imposing Duomo, distinctive for its 13th-century cloister, and a charming, flower filled town, all there for you to explore. Enjoy lunch with wine in a local restaurant in Sorrento before returning back to your ship.

In case of bad weather conditions and/or rough seas, the cruise to Amalfi will be canceled, and instead be operated by motorcoach. Due to traffic restrictions of the Sorrento center, a short walk from the motorcoach drop off point to the main center and vice versa will be required. During summer months expect extreme heat, crowded venues and long lines. We recommend that you dress in layers and bring bottled water. Tour is not offered on winter sailings.

Leisurely Sorrento
