JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title:Marketing & CommunicationsManager

Responsible to:Business & Operations Manager

Job Purpose:To provide Athletics NI with a comprehensive service in the fields of Public Relations, Communication, Marketing, Website Management and Event Promotion

Annual Leave:20 days plus public holidays

Salary:£27,500 p.a

Based at:Athletics House

Working week:37½ hours per week

MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Media and Communications

  • Create and deliver integrated PR strategies across all media platforms, both online and offline
  • To liaise with the media on a regular basis to ensure press releases, news stories and press conferences are dealt with in a timely manner and portrayed in a positive light
  • Build up a working relationship with key journalists in written, sound and TV media
  • Ensure that our key events are properly serviced in terms of PR and that the appropriate service is provided to new and existing sponsors/funders
  • Create and source unique and exclusive content for use in press releases, programmes, website and social media channels to drive revenues
  • Assist in the delivery of appropriate elements of the Athletics NI Strategic Plan 2017-2021
  • Implement theCommunications Strategy (internal/external) through all mediums targeting particularly clubs, athletes, officials, volunteers and individuals interested in athletics
  • Liaise with appropriate staff at UK Athletics to ensure that the their communication strategy is appropriately implemented in NI and that sponsored UKA initiatives as they occur in NI are properly branded and serviced
  • Ensure effective monitoring is in place at all times and media results are logged, analysed and provide regular updates to Senior Management.
  • Create, develop and manage content for theorganisation’s web presence through CMS while also tracking and reporting on all site metrics.
  • Digital Marketing - creating, managing and growing the company's presence though blogs, Twitter, Facebook, e-marketing and other strategically relevant online properties with monitoring methods in place
  • Ensure all staff, Athletics NI athletes and individuals representing the organisation are aware of and adhere to the Social Media Policy. Train relevant staff and athletes in handling media queries and interviews

Marketing

  • Develop and implement a Commercial Plan to attract new commercial income/sponsorship for Athletics NI’s events and/or activities and ensure that the sponsors’ requirements are met
  • Explore ways to maximize income/funding for athletics from Public Sector bodies
  • Review Athletics NI’s existing revenue streams and seek ways to increase income from them.
  • Explore the possibilities of introducing new revenue streams to the organisation and prepare plans for the introduction of any thought to be feasible for consideration by senior management.
  • Work (in conjunction with the Events manager) to ensure that Athletics NI’s key championships and events are delivered successfully and are appropriately branded
  • Seek ways to promote the BCC Mary Peters Track and in particular increase usage of the track especially during off peak periods for athletics usage along with an enhanced membership scheme
  • Ensure the implementation and further development of the agreed corporate identity/branding across the organisation
General
  • Provide regular reports to the Athletics NI Management Board and attend meetings if necessary
  • Report on a quarterly basis to the post’s Management Committee
  • Provide an annual report for the AGM of Athletics Northern Ireland
  • To cost effectively manage communications budgets and key media service contracts and review and evaluate key service providers e.g. PR, Advertising, Design and Print
  • Attendance will be necessary at certain promotions and events to carry out the duties of the post (this may involve working away from normal base and at weekends)
