NEXT JENERATION JEWELLERY TALENT CONTEST 2016

AWARDS TO THE BEST INTERNATIONAL TALENTS, IN THE SPOTLIGHT AT THE TEMPORARY EXHIBITION ON THE THEME “JEWELLERY AND TRAVEL” AT THE JEWELLERY MUSEUM, VICENZA

Vicenza, 3-7 September 2016 - On the occasion of VICENZAORO September, the winners of the Next Jeneration Jewellery Talent Contest 2016, the fifth edition of the contest dedicated to young designers under 30, organised by Fiera di Vicenza in conjunction with the School of Design of the Polytechnic University of Milan, were awarded.

The 5 winners (3 prizes and 2 special mentions) come from the most prestigious international schools (EcoleBoulle in Paris; Design Hochschule Pforzheim in Germany;Technology University Eindhoven in Holland;FIT, New York;Loughborough University in England; College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan;Shenkar University, Tel Aviv; Hong Kong Design Centre;HES-SO Geneva;Florida International University and the Polytechnic University of Milan). They were selected by a jury of experts officiated by Gijs Bakker - Designer and Founder of Droog Design and Chi ha paura…? - and it’s composed of: Luisa Bocchietto, Designer and former President of ADI - Industrial Design Association -Alba Cappellieri, Jewellery Design Professor at the Polytechnic University of Milan, Marco Romanelli, Designer, andPilar Coin, Marketing Director of Roberto Coin S.p.A. and Past President of Women Jewelry Association Italy.

The winners were chosen because of their creative and valid interpretations of this year’s theme “Jewellery and Travel”, understood as inspiration - symbolic or real - as well as a narrative metaphor that may refer to an interior journey, to geography or even to a production process.

The award ceremony was presented during the opening evening of VICENZAORO. The winnerwasIsottaScarpa,that was rewarded by Matteo Marzotto, President of Fiera di Vicenza, for her “Travel Shapes”: an elegant design that compares the past with the contemporary, using language and materials to understand the concept. The Right Hon. Ivan Scalfarotto, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry for Economic Development, presented the award for the second place, the talent Bhawna Bhatia D’Anella, for “Travel Notes”: an interesting research to rediscover gestures that are disused and to make functional an object, as the jewel, that is purely decorative. The third place, Alessio Lu, wasrewardedby the President of Rimini Fiera, Lorenzo Cagnoni,for “Reflecto”: a project with a strongly symbolic value, in which the subtraction of shapes accentuates the value of the design.

The Jury also thought that it was appropriate to give a special mention to OriaForsher, awarded by Jury President, Gijs Bakker, for “Inspired by Kandiski” with which she was able to express her ability to integrate art within the project. CorradoFacco, Managing Director of Fiera di Vicenza, presented the award for the second special mention, designated toSilvia di Napoli for “On the Silk Road”, a combination of cutting-edge techniques and inspiration from the past.

The winning works and those of the other finalists in the talent contest will be on show until January 2017 in the exhibition “Il Gioiello e ilViaggio - Jewellery and Travel”, curated by Alba Cappellieri and hosted by the Jewellery Museum, a projectdevised and run by Fiera di Vicenza in partnership with the Municipal authority of Vicenza, in the Palladian Basilica.
