Job Title: Senior Technical Officer

Based At: Cornwall College Camborne

Responsible For: The effective support of IT and network systems

Responsible To: Head of Information Technology Services

Salary: Business Support Staff, £21,918

Duties:

1.  Responsible for carrying out network administration duties.

2.  Responsible for managing Active Directory Services

3.  Responsible for installing, configuring and deploying desktop applications software through SCCM.

4.  Responsible for providing a high level of application integration.

5.  Responsible for setting up, customising, and maintaining individual and group policies to maximise desktop functionality & security.

6.  Responsible for managing online and computer-based exams software to the highest standard

7.  Responsible for undertaking software audits and for monitoring software usage to ensure full compliance with software licensing legislation.

8.  Providing an advanced level of technical support and assistance to staff and students in respect of network delivered services.

9.  Install, configure and support on-line testing services, and liaison with examination bodies as appropriate.

10.  Investigating and developing the use of appropriate desktop management tools.

11.  For carrying out the College’s antivirus strategy, with particular regard to ensuring that the College’s computer systems remain free from computer virus.

12.  Undertaking regular file server audits, and for producing monthly reports of software license utilisation.

13.  To work as part of the Information Technology Services Team to deliver a consistent user interface to all users, by creating and tuning workstation configurations.

14.  To provide support and advice to staff and students on effective use of the College network.

15.  Responsible for taking a lead role in developing new software services for the College.

16.  Responsible for the supervision of junior staff.

17.  To provide occasional cover for the Information Technology Services Help Desk.

18.  To undertake training and development as required

19.  To undertake any other duties as required

Person Specification

Qualifications:

Essential HND in IT related subject.

Desirable Degree in IT related subject, or Microsoft MCSE.
Experience:

Essential 3 years IT experience in a large network environment.

Wide-ranging IT skills including strong Microsoft applications and network skills

Strong knowledge of TCP/IP

Experience of managing a large Microsoft network

Desirable Proven experience of network administration of a large (500 + station) network.

Desirable Self-motivated and able to work on own initiative.

Able to organise their time effectively and work accurately even under pressure.

Terms and conditions of service:

Cornwall College Business Support Staff (see attached summary sheet). Full terms and conditions will be summarised in a contract of employment issued on appointment to the post.

Any special conditions relating to the post:

The postholder will be expected to work a 37 hour week with variable working hours between the hours of 07:00 and 21:00. Occasional weekend work will be required. Cornwall College currently operates across numerous sites in Cornwall, Devon, and Worcester, as well as working with partners across the country. The post holder must hold a current driving licence, and be prepared to travel to other sites. This travel may require the post holder to be away from home overnight. Due to the need to travel regularly between sites the loss or withdrawal of a driving license is likely to lead to dismissal.
