·  NATIONAL NIGHT OUT AGAINST CRIME – TUESDAY, AUGUST 4

Wall Street from Main to Riverside will be closed from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for this event.

·  FILL THE BOOT – FRIDAY, AUGUST 7

Spokane firefighters will be in various intersections collecting money in their boots to fund local muscular dystrophy clinics.

·  SPOKANE LIVE AT THE PLAZA – FRIDAY, AUGUST 7

This event will close Wall Street from Sprague to Riverside between 3:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.

·  DEMOLITION OF UNDER THE FREEWAY SKATE PARK – MONDAY, AUGUST 3

The City of Spokane will begin demolition of the Under the Freeway (UTF) Skate Park. The Park and Recreation Division hopes to construct a new park and has already allocated $288,000 for the project.

·  STORMWATER LANDSCAPING – DRIVERS BE CAUTIOUS

Four Seasons Landscaping will be mowing, watering and weeding at various stormwater sites throughout the city this week. Drivers should be careful in order to protect these workers.

·  SCHOOL IS OUT - PARKS SPEED LIMITS

School is out for the summer. Drivers should slow down around parks, parks with splash pads and libraries. The City Street Department has been installing 20 MPH signs at the following parks and playgrounds: Cannon, Chief Gary, Mission, Shadle, Audubon, Comstock Park and Pool, Hays, and Lincoln.

·  HAMILTON FROM SHARP TO SPRINGFIELD

Crews will be repaving Hamilton from Sharp to Springfield, Sunday, August 2 to Wednesday, August 5. Hamilton will maintain one lane of traffic in both directions.

OBSTRUCTION UPDATE

·  MONROE/LINCOLN STREET COUPLET, 8TH AVENUE TO 2ND AVENUE WILL BEGIN MONDAY, AUGUST 3

Removals and stormwater structure work will begin on Cedar Street between 4th and 3rd Ave starting Monday, August 3. Removals will also start in the southwest corner of 4th Avenue and Monroe Street. Local access in these areas will remain possible.

The project includes reconstruction of the street from 8th Ave. - Main Ave. and will replace the asphalt surfacing, including ADA ramps as needed.

The $4.52 million project is being funded by the 10-Year Street Bond, Capital Programs, Storm Water Improvements, and Water Department

·  UNDERHILL COMBINED SEWER OVERFLOW (CSO) 34-2 TANK CONTINUES

Freya Street will be closed from Hartson Street to 29th Avenue through the end of August.

Thor Street will be restricted to one lane in each direction at the intersection of 8th Avenue to perform testing on a new mainline pipe

Utility work and road reconstruction on Freya Street from 8th Ave. to 9th Ave. is underway. Local access will be restricted. This project constructed a combined sewer overflow facility under the parking lot at Underhill Park.

The $7.7 million project is being paid for by the Water-Wastewater Integrated Capital Fund.

·  WALL STREET CSO BEGINS MONDAY, AUGUST 10

Work will begin in Wall Street between Spokane Falls Boulevard and Main Street.

·  1ST AVENUE FROM HELENA TO ERIE WILL BEGIN MONDAY, AUGUST 3

This project is a residential grind and overlay pavement preservation project. The work will include minor subgrade repair, crack sealing, ADA ramps, striping and traffic control as necessary.

This $650,000 project is being funded with TBD funds

PRIVATE CONSTRUCTION

·  URBAN OUTFITTERS

o  Walker Construction has set up construction fencing around 702 W Main. The fencing is scheduled to be up until demolition and construction of Urban Outfitters is complete in late June of 2016.

OTHER OBSTRUCTION CLOSURES

o  CenturyLink will be closing the eastern northbound lane on Ruby from Boone to Sinto on Thursday, July 30.

o  Vietzke has closed 17th Avenue between Perry and Southeast Blvd for a sewer line relay and repair until Monday, August 3.

o  Rock Placing Company has closed Cataldo from Washington to Calispel to install a rock wall until Tuesday, August 4.

o  Palouse Highway will be closed for a County road project approximately from Thor St to Windmill Drive until Tuesday, August 4.

o  Hawkins Excavating has closed Courland between Thor and Ferrall for sewerm water, and sidewalk repairs until Tuesday, August 4.

o  Vietzke has closed 33rd Avenue between Bernard and Division for a sewer line relay and repair until Wednesday, August 5.

o  CenturyLink will be pulling buried caable, placing aerial fiber and a cabinet, closing the south side of Sinto east of Ruby and the alley between Sinto and Sharp from Ruby to Pearl until Thursday, August 6.

o  Inland Asphalt will be closing Ivory from Plateau to Rockwood Pines for street re-alignment until Monday, August 17.

o  Baker Construction will be closing the sidewalk on the eastern side of Division from Mission to Augusta, with a hard closure from Mission to the Alley, and a soft closure from alley north to Augusta. Alley closure as needed. This closure will end Tuesday, August 18.

o  Garco is continuing their 100% closure of Madison from 3rd Ave. to Freeway Ave until Monday, August 31.

o  Terra Bella will be closing the northern lane of Spokane Falls Blvd west of northbound Division until Sunday, September 20. They will be working on the right-of-way triangle.

o  Avista has begun pulling wire in manholes in the downtown area, affecting 1st Avenue and Wall Street.

·  THE RESIDENTIAL CHIP SEAL PROGRAM CONTINUES

The project will be in three different district locations. District one, Regal Street from Rowan Avenue to Francis Avenue; District two, 33rd Avenue to 36th Avenue from Grand Boulevard to Perry Street; and, District three, Elm Street from Broadway Avenue to Boone Avenue.

Chip sealing will consist of one-fourth chip repairs and a fog seal. This project also includes minor pavement repair and crack sealing.

This $576,000 project is being funded with Transportation Benefit District funds.

·  FRANCIS AVENUE – DIVISION TO EAST CITY LIMITS ITS DEVICES AND COMMUNICATION INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT CONTINUES

This project calls for installation of Variable Message Signs, Closed Circuit TV systems, fiber optic cables, and other related miscellaneous items. Motorist will see intermittent lane closures for the duration of the project.

This $650,000 project is being funded with Federal and Local funds

·  PHASE II OF HIGH DRIVE, BERNARD STREET TO GRAND BOULEVARD CONTINUES

The road is closed from Bernard Street to Grand Boulevard with local access only. Storm and sewer work is underway.

This integrated project includes pavement reconstruction, storm, sewer, 208 swales, and water main replacement from Bernard Street to Grand Boulevard. Phase Two construction is expected last through the fall.

The $5 million project is being funded with Federal funds and various City funds, including the 10-Year Street Bond

·  I 90 DIVISION GATEWAY, 4TH TO 3RD AVENUE IS ON HOLD AWAITING DELIVERY OF REMAINING MATERIALS

This project is for beautification improvements to five highly visible locations at the I90 and Division Street gateway entrances to the City.

This $597,602 project is being funded with parking dollars

·  HAVANA STREET IMPROVEMENTS FROM GLENROSE ROAD TO 37TH AVENUE CONTINUES

Glenrose Road from 57th Avenue to Havana Street is closed to thru traffic. Work has begun at the intersection of Freya and 44th with traffic and pedestrian improvements. Traffic will be impacted on both streets and will be controlled by flaggers and signs.

Improvements include full width pavement replacement, complete sidewalk gaps and pilot project porous asphalt bicycle lanes. This project will also include installation of a 36 inch water transmission main between 37th Avenue and the Brown Park reservoirs at 57th Avenue.

The $3.7 million project is funded with Local and State DWSRF funds

·  PHASE I OF ROWAN AVENUE IMPROVEMENTS FROM DRISCOLL BOULEVARD TO MONROE STREET WILL BEGIN LATE SUMMER

This project includes reconstruction of the street from Driscoll Blvd. to Monroe Street. The project also includes installation of bike lanes, filling sidewalk gaps and replacing water lanes.

The $2.7 million project is a City funded project

·  HARTSON AVENUE FROM ALTAMONT STREET TO FISKE STREET WILL BEGIN IN AUGUST

This project includes full depth roadway section of traveled way, fill sidewalk gaps, replace curbing where needed and install ADA curb ramps. The project will also include replacement of water lines.

The $830,000 project is being funded with City Wastewater and Water funds

·  PHASE I OF INDIANA AVENUE FROM DIVISION STREET TO PERRY STREET HAS BEGUN

Indiana is closed to thru traffic from Division to Dakota.

This project will include full depth roadway replacement and change lane configuration to one lane each direction with bike lanes.

The $2.0 million project is being funded by the City

·  PHASE I OF RAY/THOR STREET FROM 29TH AVENUE TO 3RD AVENUE WILL BEGIN THIS SUMMER

Improvements include the use of preservation treatments that include crack sealing, find and overlay and pavement rejuvenation techniques. Pedestrian improvements include upgrades to ADA curb ramps and minor curb and sidewalk repairs.

The $687,000 project is funded by the Federal Surface Transportation Program

TRAFFIC CALMING AND SIDEWALK

·  2015 ARTERIAL CURB RAMP PROJECTS CONTINUE

This project calls for Installation of ADA-compliant curb ramps at each intersection corner ahead of the City of Spokane scheduled street maintenance grind and overlay projects. This project is funded with local funds.

o  Work will finish on Wellesley Ave. from Mayfair St. to Cincinnati Street this week.

o  One lane in each direction remains on Perry Street from Augusta Ave. to Ermina Ave. work will finish Friday, July 21.

The construction estimate for this project is $350,000

·  CONNECT TO TRANSIT, PHASE II, CITYWIDE CONTINUES

New ADA approved curb ramps will be installed on Sinto from Pearl to Cincinnati this week. There will be no lane closures.

This federally funded project consists of the construction of ADA accessible curb ramps, sidewalk, pavement patching, utility adjustments, and other related items.

This $ 383,775 project is being funded with Federal Transportation Administration funds

·  TRAFFIC CALMING PROJECTS ARE SUBSTANTIALLY COMPLETE

This project will construct crosswalks, sidewalks, curb ramps, and place signage around the city.

Sidewalk and ADA work on:

o  Walnut and 7th Avenue – curb bump outs are being installed. There will be lane restrictions from 8th Avenue to 7th Avenue

o  Jackson Street from Perry to Columbus, asphalt patching is finishing

o  Bernard Street From 29th to 31st – sidewalk installation is occurring

o  Rockwood and upper Terrace at Arthur a walk through Island is being installed

o  17th Avenue from Fiske to Martin has begun

The construction estimate for this project is between $500,000 and $800,000.

·  DOWNTOWN PEDESTRIAN IMPROVEMENTS WILL BEGIN 2015

This project will design and construct pedestrian improvement in the Downtown Core consisting primarily of structural sidewalk repair/replacement. The project also includes minor sidewalk repair, street tree infill, and replacement of hazardous street tree grates and installation of bike racks, planters and garbage cans.

This $1.4 million project is being funded with Federal, State and Local funds

TRAIL/PATH

·  ADDISON/STANDARD BICYCLE/PEDESTRIAN CORRIDOR FROM BUCKEYE TO HOLLAND WILL BEGIN 2015

This project will complete a major bicycle and pedestrian corridor. It will install missing bike lanes and sidewalks along the entire corridor and make improvements to existing bike lanes.

This project is being funded with Federal funds

COMBINED SEWER OVERFLOW (CSO)

·  CSO 20/24 HIGH DRIVE & HATCH ROAD CONTINUES WITH MAJOR WORK BEGINNING IN 43RD AVENUE

43rd Ave. from Grand to Garfield St. will be closed to thru traffic until late September. Thru traffic is advised to use the Perry Street detour.

This project will construct a storage facility for CSO Basin 20, with connecting piping, interceptor inlet vault, flush systems, regulator and controls at 43rd Avenue and Garfield Street.

This work is part of the Combined Sewer Overflow program for a Cleaner River Faster Integrated Approach to Street Repair.

This project is funded with Wastewater funds, Federal and Local funds

·  CSO 6, CONTROL FACILITY AND INTEGRATED INTERCEPTOR, FROM KIERNAN AVENUE TO NORTHWEST BOULEVARD CONTINUES

Columbia from Downriver Drive to H Street and H Street from Columbia to Northwest Blvd is closed to thru traffic.

The project includes the installation of a 900,000 gallon tank.New water mains will be added at H Street, Glass Avenue and Columbia Circle these lines will be connected to the new main along Columbia Circle. Columbia Circle, H Street and Glass Avenue will be repaved and sidewalk repairs will happen in select areas. Many driveways will be replaced to match the new street grade. This week construction includes

o  Pulling asphalt as work starts up Columbia

o  Digging has begun

o  Laying sewer line has begun

The 9.5 million project is being paid for by the Water – Wastewater Integrated Capital Fund

·  East Sprague Avenue CSO Basin 33-2 Control Facility

This project will construct a combined sewer overflow facility on City property across from the City’s Sewer Maintenance Facility. One lane will be open in each direction on E. Sprague from Scott Street to the Hamilton Overpass.

The $3.7 million project is being paid for by the Water-Wastewater Integrated Capital Fund.

WATER

·  GARDEN PARK BOOSTER STATION REHABILITATION AT 2403 EAST 37TH SUSPENDED

This project is to rehabilitate the existing booster station with a new building, pumps, and motors. 37TH Avenue between Cook Street and Crestline is now open. This work is for installation of a new transmission main and connection to the new Booster Station.

The $500,000 project is being funded by City funds

·  PANORAMA DRIVE WATER MAIN REPLACEMENT

All roads in project limits will remain closed with local access only. The water main installation along Panorama Drive is complete and concrete and storm drainage installations continue. Water main installation in Sierra from Maple to Panorama will begin later this week.

The construction estimate for this project is $965,000.
