National Junior Beta Club
Crosswind Elementary School
Dear Parents:September 2016
We are pleased to inform you that because your child has demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, he/she is cordially invited to join The National Junior Beta Club at Crosswind Elementary School.
The National Beta Club recognizes outstanding achievement, promotes character and social responsibility, encourages service involvement to school and community, fosters leadership skills, grants scholarships, and provides settings for students to develop interpersonal relationship skills.
As a member of the Junior Beta Club, you will be given opportunities to volunteer at our school and other community locations. The Junior Beta Club sponsors will inform you of many volunteer opportunities, but you will likely need to search elsewhere and find some volunteer experiences on your own in order to complete the club requirements. Local organizations where many students have spent time volunteering include the public library, Page Robbins, Collierville Parks and Recreation, community races, Collierville Food Pantry, Friday Family Nights at Memphis Union Mission and many more. Any time you complete a volunteer event; you should fill out the form documenting your experience. Wherever you choose to volunteer, you must have the supervisor’s name and email address for your hours log spreadsheet. We will be checking with these supervisors randomly throughout the year. You are responsible for keeping track of your hours and printing out the spreadsheet at least twice this school year. This log spreadsheet form, as well as any other Junior Beta documents, may be found at our website:
Each member must attend our monthly meetings (held at 8:00 a.m. on the second Tuesday of the month), participate in at least five volunteer service hours per semester, and actively participate in at least two club service projects. Students are strongly encouraged to participate in as many projects as possible since this is the key to leadership development within our organization. Please give serious consideration as to how you will carry out this aspect of our club membership. Discuss with your parents ways that you might be able to help others. Any service you provide should be meaningful and important. Your service should be strictly volunteer work; you should receive no compensation, other than the satisfaction of having helped others.
There is a one-time fee of $20 collected prior to induction. This includes a $15 national induction fee, and $5 local dues. Local dues are payable at the beginning of each year of membership and are used to pay for club expenses during the year. You may wish to explore the National Beta Club website at to learn more about the benefits that are included in the induction fee. Please return your induction sheet and dues to Mrs. Sutton as soon as possible, but no later than 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 30th.
The induction ceremony into the CrosswindChapter of the National Junior Beta Club is scheduled for Tuesday, October 25th.
The dress attire for the ceremony is “dress casual.” This means you should dress nicely (No Jeans, No Shorts Please!). Girls may wear a dress, skirt, or nice slacks. Boys should wear khakis or nice slacks.
Congratulations on the achievements of your child! We look forward to an exciting year filled with activities and experiences that will continue to strengthen and build each student throughout their school years and their lives ahead.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Michelle Sutton
