Name(s) of Steerers: Ilana Avergun, Jeni Willenzik, and Taylor Kent

Name(s) of Staff Members: Rebecca Firestone

Room Set-Up: Chairs for each girl in a large circle (if possible and fits in the room), or in rows. One prayer book, one song sheet, and one tiara will be in each chair when the girls walk into the room.

Script: (prayers are in blue)

Girls will come in and sit down in the chairs. When all the girls are seated, we will start singing Hinei Ma Tov to get everyone’s attention and focus the mood for the service.

Ilana Taylor and Jeni: Introduce ourselves, and talk about how incredible and inspirational it is to be at IC praying together with all BBGs.

Ilana: Once upon a time, in a land called candyville, there was a young princess named Bella.

Jeni: Once upon a BBG in a land called New Jersey, there was a young Jewish girl named Sarah.

Ilana: These girls had much in common…

Jeni: Beauty

Ilana: Wit

Jeni: Style

Ilana: Personality

Jeni: Compassion

Ilana: …but it seemed as if the similarities stopped there.

Jeni: These girls lived in completely different worlds. Their homes, their values, and their experiences have influenced how they lead their lives.

Taylor: And as our story begins, so does our service. Please turn to page ___ for Ma Tovu. We will continue with Baruch she-a-mar, the Ashrei, and the Hatzi Kaddish

Ilana: The princess wakes up in her castle. Today is the day of the amazing Princess Ball! The invitation that has been delivered to her is on her vanity. She spends time getting ready with her friends, and is SO excited for an incredible day ahead of her!

Jeni: The BBG wakes up at home. Today is the day of the amazing new program for her chapter, the “Blast from the Past” dance party! The flier that she got in the mail is on her bulletin board. She spends time getting ready with her friends, and is SO excited for an incredible day ahead of her!

Taylor: Each girl in the two stories is being called to her event! They can’t wait to begin, and look forward to a fabulous day. The Barchu is a call to prayer. Just as the girls prepare for the ball, the Barchu is OUR invitation to pray during this morning’s Shabbat service at IC. Please turn to page ___ in your packets for the Barchu followed by Ahavah Raba

Ilana: The princess arrives at the ball and has fun during the opening ceremonies. Everyone is wearing the prettiest dresses and mingling happily. But her good times don’t last much longer. Someone pretending to show her to her seat actually kidnaps her! Bella is taken and locked away in a high tower!

Jeni: The BBGarrives at the program and has fun during the icebreaker. Everyone is wearing the cutest outfits and mingling happily. But her good times don’t last much longer. Someone tells her that the DJ canceled at the last minute, and the dance is ruined!

Taylor: Just like in the stories of Bella and Sarah, the Mi Chamocha tells the story of a dance too! Please stand or sit according to your custom for the Shema and V’ahavta, then dance with us during Mi Chamocha, just like you were at a ball or dance party of your own!

Ilana: The panic stricken Bellalooks tothe princess’s stand by, her fairy godmother, to help her out! Instead of becoming discouraged, she uses her fairy godmother as comfort, consolation, and help in providing a plan for action.

Jeni: The panic stricken Sara looks to the BBG’s standby, herself, and her foundation of the values of the B’nai Brith Girls to help her out. Instead of becoming discouraged, she looks to principals of the Menorah Pledge and the leadership knowledge she has gained in BBYO to inspire her to provide a plan for action.

Taylor: The Amidah is your chance to look inside to see what you need to make prayer personal and best fitting to you. Everyone copes with situations in different ways, and everyone prays in different ways as well. Bella and Sara both had a moment of introspection and prayer during their troubling times. BOTH of them put their hands to their heads thinking about what to do in order to get themselves out of their present situations. Keep this in mind as you recite your own prayers, and maybe think about who you look to in your times of need. We’ll begin on page ___ and continue silently after the Kedusha.

Ilana: The fairy godmother alerts a prince in shining armor that the princess is trapped in the highest tower at the top of the castle! He comes to the princess’s rescue and fights through obstacles and traps all the way up the stairs to save the day and the beautiful Bella!

Jeni: The BBG uses her own wisdom to inspire her board and change the situation for the better. She switches the program around! First, she starts a trivia game that was supposed to happen after the dance party in order to keep the girls attention and the program rolling. Then, during the game, she calls up her friend to help bring iPod speakers and music to re-start the dance. She comes to the chapter’s rescue and fights through obstacles and traps all the way through to save the day and the spirit of the BBG’s!

Taylor: Sim Shalom is a blessing that asks God to grant peace, goodness, compassion, grace, and kindness upon his people. Sara and Bella have resolved their own unfortunate predicaments in their own unique ways. While singing this next prayer, keep in mind what Sara and Bella have used to peacefully, compassionately, gracefully, and kindly take the initiative to save the day. Turn to page __ for Sim Shalom

Taylor: The Torah teaches us incredible and exciting stories full of lessons of leadership, determination, and wisdom. We learn from it in many ways….

Torah Service: Taylor’s D’var Torah, about how strong we are as B’nai BrithGirls and how our hard work and intelligence leads us to our own fairytale ending.

Ilana: And the prince bound through the door, sweeping Bella off of her feet and instantly falling in love. He brought the princess back to the ball and proposed under the stars at the nights end.

Jeni: And the iPod speakers arrived just as the trivia game was coming to a close. The dance party continued with each girl instantly falling in love with BBG. The Blast from the past party concluded with a last dance under the stars at the nights end.

Ilana and Jeni: And they lived Happily ever after!

Taylor: And as our stories come to a close, so does our service. Please turn to page ___ for the Aleinu, Mourners Kaddish, Adon Olam and B’tzelem Elohim.

Adon Olam/B’tzelem Elohim

Ilana: Both fairytales undoubtedly closed with a Happily ever after. But as they say, It’s not the destination, it’s the journey.

Jeni: Bella was the classic fairytale damsel in distress. She needed a fairy god mother and a Prince to save her.

Ilana: But Sara knew better. Being a B’nai Brith girl had taught her to think independently and to be strong. She used what was inside her to serve as a guide instead of relying on others.

Jeni: What we want you to take away from our service is that everyone faces challenges and that everyone faces them differently. But- we are B’nai Brith girls.

Ilana: Strength and Dignity are our clothing. And we can succeed without a Prince Charming. We can succeed based on the sisterhood, the leadership, the friendship, and the lessons that we have learned in this great organization.

Jeni: So the next time you find yourself dreaming of fairytales and Happily ever afters look no further.

ALL: Because Happily ever after is right here!

SONG SESSION!!

Start with these songs, and continue with more

Cinderella- Cheetah Girls

When I was just a little girl my mama used to
Tuck me into bed and she'd read me a story.
It always was about a princess in distress
And how a guy would save her and end up with her glory.
I'd lie in bed and think about the person that I wanted to be.
Then one day I realized that fairy tale life wasn't for me.

I don't wanna be like Cinderella
Sittin' in a dark cold dusty cellar
Waitin' for somebody to come and set me free
I don’t wanna be like someone waiting for a
Handsome prince to come and save me
Oh no will survive unless somebody’s on my side
Don't wanna be no no no one else
I'd rather rescue myself
Someday I'm gunna find someone that wants
Somebody's soul, heart, and mind
Whose not afraid to show that he loves me
Somebody who will understand I'm happy just the way I am
Don’t need nobody taking care of me
I will be there for him just as strong as he will be there for me
When I get myself ready it will have to be an equal pay
(chorus x1)
I can slay my own dragon I can dream my own dreams
My knight in shining over its me
So I'm gunna set me free
(Chorus x2)

Fairytale- Sara Bareilles

Cinderella's on her bedroom floor
She's got a crush on the guy at the liquor store
Cause Mr. Charming don't come home anymore
And she forgets why she came here
Sleeping Beauty's in a foul mood for shame
she says none for you dear prince, I'm tired today
I'd rather sleep my whole life away than have you keep me from dreaming
I don't care for your fairytales
You're so worried bout the maiden though you know
She's only waiting on the next best thing
Snow White is doing dishes again cause
What else can you do
With seven itty-bitty men?
Sends them to bed and calls up a friend
Says will you meet me at midnight?
The tall blonde lets out a cry of despair says
Would have cut it myself if I knew men could climb hair
I'll have to find another tower somewhere and keep away from the windows
(chorus)
Once upon a time in a faraway kingdom
Man made up a story said that I should believe him
Go and tell your white knight that he's handsome in hindsight
But I don't want the next best thing
So I sing and hold my head down and I break these walls round me
Can't take no more of your fairytale love
I don't care for your fairytales
You're so worried bout the maiden though you know
She's only waiting spent the whole life being graded on the sanctity of patience and a dumb
Appreciation
But the story needs some mending and a better happy ending
Cause I don't want the next best thing
No no I don't want the next best thing

Love Story- Taylor Swift

We were both young when I first saw you
I close my eyes
And the flashback starts
I'm standing there
On a balcony of summer air
See the lights,
See the party, the ball gowns
I see you make your way through the crowd
You say hello
Little did I know
That you were Romeo you were throwing pebbles
And my daddy said stay away from Juliet
And I was crying on the staircase
Begging you please don't go, and I said:
Romeo take me somewhere we can be alone
I'll be waiting all there's left to do is run
You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess
It's a love story baby just say yes
So I sneak out to the garden to see you
We keep quiet cause we're dead if they know
So close your eyes
Escape this town for a little while
Cause you were Romeo I was a scarlet letter
And my daddy said stay away from Juliet
But you were everything to me
I was begging you please don't go and I said:
Romeo take me somewhere we can be alone
I'll be waiting all there's left to do is run
You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess
It's a love story baby just say yes
Romeo save me, they try to tell me how to feel
This love is difficult, but it's real,
Don't be afraid
We'll make it out of this mess
It's a love story baby just say yes, oh,
I got tired of waiting
Wondering if you were ever coming around
My faith in you was fading
When I met you on the outskirts of town I said:
Romeo save me I've been feeling so alone
I keep waiting for you but you never come
Is this in my head, I don't know what to think
He knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring
And said:
Marry me Juliet you'll never have to be alone
I love you and that's all I really know
I talked to your dad go pick out a white dress
It's a love story baby just say yes
