Dear Math Sponsor(s):

We would like to invite you and your students to the Klein Collins IntermediateSchool Math Tournament on Saturday,December 7, 2013.

We have enclosed a schedule of tests and a registration form. If you plan to attend, please have your registration in by Monday, December 2, 2013. There will be 4 TMSCA tests, consisting of Number Sense, Calculator, Mathematics, and Science tests. There will also be tests written by our Mu Alpha Theta members. These tests are grade specific and subject specific. As in the past, there will be an option for each student taking the Math test: he/she can take either a grade level test or a TMSCA test. We are doing the same thing with the Science tests. They can choose to take the TMSCA Science or they can take a grade level Science test. There are specific rules for taking the TMSCA test (TMSCA and UIL rules), so please check those rules so your students will have an equal opportunity to do well on these tests. Please mark accordingly on the registration form. Calculators(graphing or scientific) will be allowed on the Calculator and Algebra I tests only. No calculators will be provided by KC. Number Sense, Calculator, and the TMSCA Math and Science tests will be scored by TMSCA/UIL rules. All other tests will be graded by % correct. There will be no penalty for skipping a question on these tests.

Please note: If the number of students registered for a particular test are low, we may combine tests. EX: combining Pre-AP with Pre-AP/GT, or put honors with regulars, etc.

Individual trophies or medals will be awarded for first, second, and third place and ribbons will be awarded for fourth through twentieth place. In the Teams test, those teams ranking first through third place will receive trophies or medals for the individual team members and individual ribbons for those placing 4th and 5th. A team can consist of 1 to 4 members of the same grade. A sweepstakes trophy will be awarded to the school with the most overall points, as well as 2nd and 3rd place trophies. Ten points will be awarded for first, nine for second, and so on with tenth place receiving one point.

For the third year, we will also be offering Number Sense, Calculator, Math and Science tests for 4th and 5th graders. Mr. Paul Thornton will write these tests and they will follow the format of TMSCA/UIL. Participation in these events has been outstanding, so we are expecting a great turnout in the elementary division! These students will also be receiving trophies or medals for 1st through 3rd place, and ribbons for 4th through 20th place. IF you happen to know an elementary school that might be interested, please forward this e-mail to them and they can contact Liz Salinas for more information.

The cost of each individual test is $5.00. Team test entry fee is $15.00 fora team consisting of no more than four members of that particulargrade/.

A concession stand with snacks, pizza, and beverages will be available during the tournament. Refreshments (breakfast and lunch) for sponsors/graders will be provided in our hospitality room, which will be in the library.

If you have any questions, please contact Liz Salinas at 713-962-2230.
