Task Analysis

  1. Gather items (paper, scissors, glue, tape, pipe cleaner)
  1. Select color paper of preference; fold itseveral times depending on how many “petals” you want to have. Draw either a circle/flower head. The circle can be any size ranging from a small circle to a very large circle.
  1. Cut out the shape of the drawing made.
  1. Once the shape is cut, take all of the pieces, and take a small pinch from the center, and twist the paper three to four times so that all of the paper pieces are secured together.
  1. To create flower-like petals, hold the flower securely with one hand, and then “peel” and fluff the outer part of the circle to create petals pulling gently on the paper while it is still being held in the middle.
  1. Create multiple shapes, glue them together. When gluing, make sure the lower layers of the flower are flatter than the upper layers of the flower.
  1. Once the flower head is formed, take a pipe cleaner and tape the flower head so that it looks like the stem.
  1. Paper flower is now created.

SIMPLIFYING AND COMPLICATING THIS ACTIVITY:

Ways to SIMPLIFY demands / Ways to make more COMPLEX
Cognitively / Give step by step directions on how to create simple flowers,
Creates roles in making flower (i.e. one cuts the paper, the other glues, one puts together, etc) / Ask to create more challenging flowersthat require more steps and more detail.
Physically / Choose an accessible environment to implement the activity in. / Choose construction paper instead of sheet paper to make flower making complex.
Socially / Create flowers with familiar people, thus deviating from ice breakers and meeting new people. / Require a single person to finish the entire paper flower process. Have a “show and tell” of each person’s flower, award a prize to the best flower, ask participants to work together on deciding a “team flower”.
