LONE STAR SYMPHONIC BAND CELEBRATES AMERICAN HONOR

June 5th, 2008. Houston, Texas. The Lone Star Symphonic Band rounds out its 15th Anniversary Season with a concert that celebrates America’s Birthday. The Band will perform a patriotic-themed concert on Sunday, June 29th, 2008 at the Houston Community College Town and Country Campus, Performing Arts Center, Theatre #1. A matinee performance will begin at 3:00 pm, and an evening performance will begin at 7:00 pm. Tickets to either performance will be $5 each, and can be purchased at the door, or by calling the Band Information Line at 713-893-5026.

Music slated to be performed include: Bugler’s Holiday, by Leroy Anderson; God of Our Fathers, by Claude T. Smith; A Tribute to Irving Berlin; Americans We, by Fillmore; The Stars and Stripes Forever, by John Philip Sousa; Eternal Father, Strong to Save (U.S. Navy Hymn), arranged by Claude T. Smith; Shenandoah, by Frank Tichelli; Highlights from Westside Story, by Bernstein and Ingram; Texas, Our Texas, by Rhodes and Biershank; Armed Forces Salute; and The Star Spangled Banner, arranged by John Philip Sousa.

Boy Scout Troop #251 will present the flags at both performances, and will lead the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance. The Katy VFW Post 9182 will present the Armed Forces Branch Flags during Armed Forces Salute. The different variations of the American Flag are also slated to be on display on stage during the performances.

The Lone Star Symphonic Band is an adult semi-professional wind ensemble dedicated to bringing performances of artistic merit to the Houston area community. Founded in 1993 as the West Houston Concert Band, the band is comprised of musicians from all walks of life and instills the value that music is a life-long event, continuing well beyond high school and college, and awards the Jon K. Fisher Memorial Scholarship to students majoring in Music. In the summer of 2005, the Band entered into a joint venture with Houston Community College – Town and Country Campus, offering the band as a course for credit to HCC students interested in performing with an ensemble. The Band is under the direction of Mr. Bob Bryant.
