Textbook: Holt Algebra I

Conference period: Period 4 from 11:06 – 11:59am
Supplies: pencils, pens, paper, 3-ring binder for all subjects, subject dividers with one labeled for Algebra I. This section should contain Algebra notes, quizzes, handouts, worksheets, and any other work done in or outside of class. Another option is to use a portfolio with prongs/pockets to keep Algebra work. The Algebra work is to be used to study and prepare for quizzes, major tests, and for the STAAR End of Course Algebra I Test. The STAAR EOC test will graded based on a scaled score provided by the curriculum director and entered as the 2nd semester exam grade.
Graph paper, rulers, colored pencils, glue sticks, and graphing calculators will be supplied in the classroom. You may opt to get these for your child if you wish. The graphing calculators used in the classroom are the TI-84 Plus.
Grading Policy: Major Tests – 40%
Daily(in class work, homework, & quizzes) – 40%
Nine Week Test – 20%
Tests are kept by the teacher in the classroom. Tests are returned for review and to receive the grade, but are not to be kept permanently by the student.
Expectations
1. Come to school each day and be on time.
2. Be prepared with binder, notes, supplies and ready to learn.
3. Listen and ask questions.
4. Study and practice, practice, practice. Do more than what is expected.
5. Come to tutorials for help, questions, and homework check.
Rules
1. Act in a way that will not prevent me from teaching you or keep others from learning.
2. Respect yourself, others, and the school.
Cell phone use is prohibited during class unless directed otherwise by the teacher.
Procudures:
All make work should be done in PENCIL unless otherwise directed.
There is homework. Be ready!!
Late work will be taken, but points will be deducted.
Quizzes will be given weekly.
Tutorials
Tutorials are available before and after school each day. Before school tutorials begin at 7:30am. Tutorials after school end at 4:15pm.
Make-Up Work
Students shall be responsible for obtaining and completing the make-up work in a satisfactory manner and within the time specified by the teacher.
A student will be given at least the same number of days missed from school to turn in make-up work.
For planned absences students should make prior contact and arrangements for missed or upcoming assignments.
Retake/Retest
Students may be allowed to redo a class assignment or examination for which the student received a failing grade for an additional grade that reflects the student’s relative mastery. Retesting is allowed for a failed test grade within 5 days of the test and only after tutorials have been completed. The failed grade will be replaced with a passing grade once the material has been mastered.
Interim Progress Reports
All students shall be issued an interim progress report after the third and sixth weeks of the grading period.
Grades and Weight
A minimum of fifteen different assignments will be taken each nine weeks for classes that meet each day of the week.
The weight of any assignment must not exceed twenty percent of the total nine week grade.
No one, under any circumstances, will be permitted to disrupt the class to the point of hindering or not permitting any student from learning!!!!!
