20 per week. This will include daytime and evening work from Monday to Friday and occasional weekend cover.
£8.25 per hour.
5.6 week per annum Pro Rata.
This is a permanent post with a six month probationary period. It is dependent on continued funding and may be terminated by one month’s notice in writing by the employee or employer, or more if required by Statutory Guidelines. MRC Community Action reserves the right to give pay in lieu of notice.

Job PurposeTo provide cover for the Marlene Reid Centre during opening hours and to carry out routine maintenance and cleaning of the Centre.

General Duties

To provide cover for the Marlene Reid Centre including:

  • Opening and closing the Centre at times agreed with the Operations Manager and being responsible for its security when on duty, particularly in evenings or at weekends;
  • Ensuring the smooth operation of the Marlene Reid Centre reception area when on duty, regular checking of public areas and offices, toilets and boiler house;
  • Being responsible for implementing the Health & Safety at Work policy when on duty;
  • Being responsible for implementing the Fire and First Aid procedures when on duty;
  • Ensuring that any equipment etc. used by groups is stored securely;
  • Liaising with user groups when on duty to ensure their needs are met, informing the Operations Manager of any future needs.

To carry out the routine maintenance and cleaning of the Centre either in the evenings or during the daytime duty hours including:

  • Carrying out maintenance work that is possible without the use of outside contractors including emergency work. This includes a 5-year rolling programme of internal decoration.
  • Maintaining a central log book of all repairs or maintenance work needed, as identified by the Premises Support Officer, other Centre staff or other Base Users, recording works carried out and where appropriate, costs;
  • Regular checks of safety equipment, electrical installations, alarms and lift;
  • Maintaining regular checks on centre stocks and assisting in ordering replacements or new items with the Operations Manager;
  • Regular cleaning;
  • Supervising on a day to day basis any trainees or volunteers placed at the Marlene Reid Centre to gain experience of, or to undertake maintenance / caretaking work.

Other ReasonableDuties

In addition to the key tasks, the post-holder will share in the following responsibilities:

  • Implement all current MRC Community Action policies;
  • Deputise for other colleagues as and when required by arrangement with them and/or the Operations Manager;
  • Be fully conversant with and support the aims / objectives / operations of MRC Community Action and be able at all times to implement them / ensure implementation of them;
  • Work closely with the Operations Manager to ensure the smooth operation of the areas of work on a day to day basis;
  • To carry out such other duties as the Operations Manager / Board of Trustees may from time to time determine.
  • Attend appropriate training courses.

Attainments / competencies / Reasonable level of physical fitness.
Reliable and able to work without continuous supervision.
Able to work flexible hours, including daytime, evenings & weekends.
Basic maintenance experience and DIY skills or the ability to develop them.
Ability to drive.
The ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with people of all levels and backgrounds.
Respect for confidentiality. / Experience of Caretaking.
Ability to keep basic administration records of work undertaken.
Experience of I.T.
Access to a vehicle.
Knowledge of safeguarding.
