Dear Montpelier Families:
As the 2016-17 school year comes to an end, I would like to thank you for a most “productive, positive and peaceful” year. It was a year to remember as we celebrated Montpelier’s 50th anniversary.
Montpelier Elementary students participated in the PARCC tests administered using the equipment in our computer labs or on Chromebooks. Under the direction of our music department, our students thrilled us all with their wonderful performances at the spring choral and instrumental concerts. Another proud moment for Montpelier this year is receiving the Maryland Green School Award. I am so proud of our students and grateful to my wonderful staff and parents for their hard work and dedication. How productive!
We have continued our traditions of Book Fairs, Honor Roll assemblies, International Day, Math Month, and Career Day. We have also continued our dedication to helping others through our support of the Jump Rope for Heart and the Saint Jude Foundation. All programs were extremely well received. How positive!
And, let’s not forget the continuation of our Behavior Incentive Program! How peaceful!
In conjunction with the Healthy Schools Initiative, our students have continued to enjoy our daily, morning “Jam Sessions” beginning each morning with exercises. Our Family Fitness Night was well attended and much enjoyed. We were awarded the “Healthier US School” Bronze Award from the USDA Food and Nutrition Service. We continue to emphasize the importance of making healthy choices in our meals and our snacks.
Most of you will be returning to Montpelier but some will be moving on to middle schools or to new schools, depending upon your personal situations. I would like to thank you for the opportunity to educate your child and wish you well at your new schools.
Thank you for your support and for the support of our PTO. It is hoped that, with your continued support, we may continue to modify and improve upon the strong foundation that has established Montpelier Elementary as the wonderful school we all know it to be.
Sincerely,
Carla C. Furlow, Proud Principal

FIELD DAY
This year’s field day was held on Wednesday May 31st and Friday, June 2nd . Each grade level participated in organized activities including Tug-of War, 3-Legged races, Running Relays, Hoops challenges and, generally, having a really good time. Thank you to the parent volunteers and to those who so generously donated cases of bottled water. Also, special thanks to Coach Mitsak and Coach Gagnon for coordinating this wonderful event.
