Montgomery Rowing Club

Learn to row on the Alabama River with the Montgomery Rowing Club’s intensive, introductory rowing clinic. Over three successive weekends, the instructors will provide 9 hours of classroom and on-the-water instruction. The cost for the clinic is $100 (all of which may be applied to the $200 MRC annual membership fee).

All row: intensive on-the-water instruction.

Discuss fall regattas, membership, and final questions.

If instruction is precluded by weather conditions, then alternate dates or times will be set by agreement of the class.

Directions: All instruction will take place at the Montgomery Marina Riverboat and MRC dock. From downtown Montgomery take I-65 North towards Birmingham and exit on Northern Blvd. Take the first exit (right) after you cross the Alabama River. Turn right on Louisville Street, right on Lenora Street and right on Shady Lane. The entrance to the Marina is at the end of Shady Lane on the left. Please call Emile Elias (399-4656) if you have difficulty finding the Marina.

MRC Coaches:

Don Nolte started rowing in 1988 at Austin TX, where his daughter Astrid rowed with the University of Texas (stroking their varsity 8+ to a gold medal at the Head of the Chattahoochee her senior year). Don embarked on a rigorous training program, rowing 7 or 8 times a week with coaching by a member of the US Olympic team and competing in numerous regattas including the Masters Nationals. He became a level 1 certified USRowing coach, taught novice classes in Austin and has coached dozens of novice and intermediate rowers since. From Austin he moved to Munich then Nuremberg, Germany, where he rowed with German crews in numerous major regattas including the Head of the River in London. In 1993 he moved to Montgomery and founded the Montgomery Rowing Club, of which he is president and head coach.

Chris Moore started rowing in 1991 during his sophomore year at Westside High School in Augusta GA. He is a national medalist, winning a Bronze in the USRowing Junior National Championships in 1994 in the High School Men’s 8, and Gold in 1995 in the High School Men’s 4+. After graduating High School, Chris began rowing for Augusta State University and was named Men’s Captain, as well as coaching full time for the Augusta Junior Rowing Club as the Men’s Novice coach. In 1998 Chris was voted Novice Coach of the Year for the Southeast Region, and became a level 1 certified USRowing coach. Chris was promoted to Varsity Men’s Coach in the fall of 1998. Currently, Chris is serving in the Air Force and is the competitive/racing coach for the Montgomery Rowing Club.
