MOHAWK-Mr. Joseph W. “Joe” Volo, 92 of Mohawk, entered into eternal rest peacefully on Monday evening, October 4, 2010 in Little Falls Hospital with his family at his bedside.
He was born on February 16, 1918 in Little Falls, son of the late Carlo and Provedenza (Loiacano) Volo and attended Fort Herkimer school. He has lived most of his life in the Mohawk area. Growing up he worked with his family, on their produce farm. On August 5, 1939 he was united in marriage with Winifred Barse in Fairfield, a 71-year union filled with love, attentiveness and devotion. Mr. Volo was proud of his military experience, having served with the United States Marine Corps. He was last employed with Remington Arms retiring after 35 and a-half years of dedicated service. Joe was a faithful communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church, Mohawk. He was a former member of the Mohawk Fish and Game Club and a member of the Mohawk American Legion Post #25.
Mr. Volo considered his family to be the center of his life and the focus of his commitment; a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was completely and selflessly devoted to his loved ones and loved socializing with people. As a man with a deep and abiding awareness of the value and importance of family relationships, he was always willing to sacrifice his self in order to serve the needs of his family members. In their early years, family reunions and dancing were a big part of Mr. and Mrs. Volo’s lives. In his spare time Joe enjoyed hunting and fishing. The legacy of his life has touched everyone who knew him. He will be sorely missed.
Survivors include his loving and devoted family; his wife Winifred of Mohawk; a son: Vernon Volo and wife Rebecca of Mohawk; three daughters: Florence Aloisio of Mohawk, Sheila Jones of Gainesville, FL., and Alicia Volo of Ilion; a brother: Michael Volo of Columbia; his cherished grandchildren: Mark Aloisio (Colleen), Steven Aloisio, Debra Bentley (Brad), Jennifer Bull (Ronny), Erica Miscione (Paul) and Janelle Roginski (Steven); his adored great grandchildren: Alex, Marky, Steven, Stephanie, Chase, Kyle, Samuel, Zachery and Matthew.
