ATTENDANCE IS COMPULSORY TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS COURSE! If you are absent on any given day then it is your responsibility to find out what you missed and catch up on the notes and work.

HOMEWORK:

Homework is used to reinforce the concepts worked on in class, and is a critical part of gaining understanding and mastery of the topics being covered in this course. You will be expected to complete all assignments, including the ones from the days when you are ill or away from class. Regular in-class, open-book assignments will be based on recently assigned homework. Homework will be posted on my wikispace (mcreighton1.wikispaces.com) as well as sent out via Remind. If you wish to receive the Remind text messages please follow the information below.

ASSESSMENT:

There are 16 outcomes among 8 units. For each outcome students will complete both summative and formative assessments to show they understand the given outcome. The evidence opportunities, such as exit slips, quizzes, homework, written assignments or unit tests, will allow students to work at their level of understanding which may be basic, mid or high level. In order for assessment to be as valuable to the student as possible, it is very important for students to get assignments in on time so that the students’ difficulties and strengths can be addressed in a timely manner.

EXTRA HELP: Extra help will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays at lunch as well as by request.

MISSED EVALUATIONS:

You will be expected to write assessments on the day scheduled. If you are absent for an evaluation, you must be prepared to write the make-up evaluation on the day you return to class. Your mark on the make-up evaluation will initially be recorded as 60% of your actual mark on the evaluation. In order to receive full marks, you must provide a signed note from your parent/guardian that the absence was for a valid reason. If this note is not submitted to your math teacher within a week, then the initial recorded mark will stand as your final mark on the evaluation.

TEST RE-WRITE POLICY: If you fail a test, you will be given the opportunity to re-write once per test to a maximum grade of 60%. You must request a re-write the day the original test is returned to you by filling out a test re-write form. The re-write will occur approximately one week later on a date to be determined by the teacher. You must attend at least one extra-help session before attempting the re-write.
