Middle Colony Settlement Brochure

Directions: Pretend that you are a travel agent working for the Middle Colonies. Create a travel advertisement that will catch the eye of a European looking to move to the colonies. You want to include all of the positive aspects of the Middle Colonies in your brochure. Include details that the different colonies (NY, NJ, PA, DE) have to offer.

  • Your advertisement is to be made on an 11 x 14 piece of paper that I will provide.
  • Your advertisement should include pictures, hand drawn or printed images that depict life in the Middle Colonies.
  • You should include textual information that describes why an individual would want to live in the Middle Colonies.

Information to Include:

  1. Political
  • Important leaders/founders of region
  • Rights and freedoms allowed
  • Opportunities for involvement in government
  1. Economic
  • Possible job opportunities
  • Trade opportunities
  • Crops (farming) and natural resources
  1. Geographical
  • Type of land/soil
  • Near water
  • Climate
  1. Religion
  • What religious groups settled there
  • Are new religious groups welcome
  • Is religion involved with government
  1. Culture/Social
  • What ethnic backgrounds do people come from
  • How is culture expressed (ex. types of homes, skills)

Information for the brochure should come from your completed graphic organizer, supplementary reading done in class and your Nation textbook pages.
