PART 1 GENERAL

1.1 SECTION INCLUDES

1.4 DESIGN REQUIREMENTS

A. Provide windows complying with requirements indicated, based on testing manufacturer's window that are representative of those specified and that are of test size required by AAMA/WDMA/CSA/101/I.S.2/A440.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include window design pressure (DP) ratings as part of the performance requirements. Required DP will vary dependent on project site, the location in the building and window size. Coordinate DP with the Structural Engineer. DP ratings and related window size and style are available at or by contacting a JELD-WEN representative. Insert value or refer to drawing information.

B. Structural Requirements: Provide windows complying with requirements indicated:

Qualifying windows vary to fit the needs of different regions throughout the country. 1.5 SUBMITTALS

1. Preparation instructions and recommendations.

2. Storage and handling requirements and recommendations.

3. Installation methods.

C. Shop Drawings: Submit shop drawings indicating details of construction, flashings and relationship with adjacent construction.

D. Verification Samples: For each finish product specified, two samples, minimum size 6 inches (150 mm) square, representing actual product, color, and patterns.

E. Quality Assurance Submittals:

1.6 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Installer Qualifications: Minimum 2 years installing similar assemblies.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include a mock-up if the project size and/or quality warrant taking such a precaution. The following is one example of how a mock-up on a large project might be specified. When deciding on the extent of the mock-up, consider all the major different types of work on the project.

B. Mock-Up: Provide a mock-up for evaluation of installation techniques and workmanship.

1. Window mock-up shall incorporate surrounding construction, including wall assembly fasteners, flashing, and other related accessories installed in accordance with window manufacturer's approved installation methods.

2. Do not proceed with remaining work until workmanship is approved by Architect.

3. Rework mock-up as required to produce acceptable work.

C. Pre-installation Meeting: Conduct pre-installation meeting on-site two weeks prior to window installation start.

1.7 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Deliver windows materials and components in manufacturer's original, unopened, undamaged containers with identification labels intact.

B. Store windows as recommended by manufacturer.

1.8 PROJECT CONDITIONS

A. Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's recommended limits.

1.9 WARRANTY

A. Manufacturer standard warranty indicating that the patio door unit will be free from material and workmanship defects from the date of substantial completion for the time periods indicated below:

1. Window Unit: 20 years.

2. Cladding Finish: 10 years against peeling, checking, cracking caulk or color change.

3. Insulated Glass: 20 years against seal breakage.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.1 MANUFACTURERS

2.2 ALUMINUM-CLAD WOOD PATIO DOOR ASSEMBLlES

A. Basis of Design: Metal-clad wood patio door assemblies as manufactured by JELD-WEN, Inc.

1. Patio Door Type: Sliding patio doors, clad wood construction.

B. Patio Door Fabrication:

1. Panels: Corners machine clamped, joined with finger-joint-pur corners.

2. Glass: Mounted using silicone glazing compound on exterior and retainer held bead on interior.

3. Cladding: Aluminum corners are jointed and sealed.

C. Frames:

1. Material: Select kiln-dried pine AuraLast treated wood.

2. Jamb Width: 4-9/16 inches (116 mm).

3. Cladding 0.050 inch (1.27 mm) extruded aluminum.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Number of panels per patio door unit varies by door size. Include number of panels under "Size" in Part 3 Schedule Article.

D. Panels:

1. Materials: Select kiln-dried pine AuraLast treated wood and engineered wood substrate. Select members have a LVL core.

2. Cladding: 0.055 inch to 0.100 inch (1.4 mm to 2.5 mm) extruded aluminum, finish to match exterior finish.

3. Thickness: 1-3/4 inches (44.5 mm).

4. Layout: 3-11/32 inches (85 mm) stiles and rails face width.

E. Exterior Trim:

1. Nailing Fins and Drip Caps: Integral extruded aluminum on head and jambs.

2. Frame Expanders: 1-7/8 inches (48 mm).

3. Frame Expanders: 3-1/4 inches (83mm).

4. Mull Expanders: 2-1/8 inches (54 mm).

F. Extension Jambs: Applied at head and sides of frame interior in wall depths up to 12 inches.

G. Weatherstripping:

1. Head: Ivory colored rigid vinyl parting stop with pile weatherstripping and aluminum track at operating head.

2. Meeting Stiles: Ivory colored fiberglass interlock sealed with dense pile weatherstripping.

3. Side Jambs: Ivory colored rigid vinyl parting stop with pile weatherstripping.

4. Sill: Pile weatherstripping.

H. Sills: Standard one-piece pultruded fiberglass and stainless steel track.

I. Sills: Provide optional molded ABS plastic sill pan.

J. Hardware:

1. Sliding System: Two sets of adjustable steel single steel ball bearing rollers.

K. Glazing for Patio Doors:

1. Strength: Tempered glass.

2. Glazing Type: Insulated glass.

a. Description: Two panes of glass utilizing continuous roll formed stainless steel spacer and dual seal sealants.

b. Overall Nominal Thickness: 3/4 inch (19 mm).

c. Coating on No. 2 Surface: Standard, Low-E.

3. Glazing Type: Monolithic glass.

1. Material: Charcoal fiberglass mesh screen cloth (18 by 16 mesh) set in .040 inch (1 mm) extruded aluminum frame with adjustable steel rollers.

a. Exterior Muntins:

1) Material: Extruded aluminum permanently applied to exterior of insulating glass unit.

2) Pattern: As scheduled and indicated on Drawings.

b. Interior Muntins

1) Material: Clear pine permanently bonded to interior of insulating glass unit.

2) Width: Match exterior muntin.

2. Type: Full Surround Wood Grilles.

a. Material: Unfinished clear pine.

b. Profile: Modified OGEE.

c. Pattern: As scheduled and indicated on Drawings.

d. Size: 7/8 inch (22 mm).

3. Type: Grilles Between the Glass (GBG).

a. Material: Made of roll formed aluminum suspended within the air cavity.

b. Pattern: As scheduled and indicated on Drawings.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

A. Inspect window prior to installation. Inspect rough opening for compliance with window manufacturer recommendations. Verify rough opening conditions are within recommended tolerances.

3.2 PREPARATION

A. Prepare windows for installation in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations.

3.3 INSTALLATION

A. Install windows in accordance with manufacturer's installation guidelines and recommendations Comply with manufacturer's published instructions for installation type. Install in proper relationship with adjacent work.

3.4 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL

A. Manufacturers' Field Services: Field inspections.

3.5 CLEANING

A. Remove Preserve film from glass. Clean the exterior surface and glass with mild soap and water.

3.6 PROTECTION

A. Protect installed windows from damage.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Sample schedule for specific project. When a single type of window is utilized on a project, specifier may elect to delete the schedule in its entirety. When schedules are included on the drawings, schedule should be deleted from the specification.
