MFCA Membership and NOCAD Insurance – Joe Russo

  • Membership is available online at the web address above. Cost per school is $70.00 for two years.
  • NOCAD Insurance is provided for 8 coaches from each member school at no additional cost. Member coaches are covered with $1,000,000.00 liability insurance. Coaches who are teachers in the building are also covered. Schools with more than eight coaches can add additional coaches for $16.00 per coach by contacting Joe Russo () and giving him the coach’s name and he will be added to your school’s staff.
  • Those of you who are not MFCA members should consider the real possibility of being involved in some type of litigation. NOCAD insurance covers legal fees.
  • NOCAD provides excellent, inexpensive camp insurance.

MFCA 28thHall of Fame Banquet – Joe Russo

  • The 2015 Hall of Fame / All-State Banquet will be held February 22, 2015 at Michael’s 8th Avenue. Tickets are $45.00.
  • The MFCA Hall of Fame was established in 1988 and currently has 82 members. Each member is inscribed in a plaque outside the Gossett Football Team House at the University of Maryland.

  • The John Voight Assistant Coach Award was established in 1994 and currently has 52 members. Nominees should have a minimum of 20 years of dedicated service as an assistant coach.

  • Team selection is coming along very well and although Team Maryland has lost several players due to the late date of the game and the early reporting dates for many freshman football players the staff is confident that they will be able to select a strong 34 man roster.
  • 64 Maryland high school football players signed Division 1 scholarships this year.

MFCA Combine - -Joe Russo

  • MFCA Combine will be held at Hammond HS on April 26, 2015.
  • As the organizations major fund raiser the MFCA combine is open to every football playing high school in Maryland. Coaches are encouraged to utilize the MFCA combine to motivate their players, use the MFCA combine as a team building event as well as a benchmark for your players to see where they stand against other HS players in Maryland. Additionally, Donnie Zimmerman (President of National Preps) uses the MFCA combine as a “one stop shop” to find players to promote to colleges. Your athletes will certainly get a leg up on the competition with a positive showing at the MFCA combine.
  • Cost to member schools is $20.00. Walk-up registration will be $30.00.
  • It has been suggested that a white board be present at each event station to post the best times, lifts, etc. for each event. T-shirts to be awarded to the best in each event.
  • Events and responsibilities will include:

  • T-Shirt Distribution: Baltimore City
  • Height & Weight: Anne Arundel County
  • Leaders: Eastern Shore & Westminster HS

  • 40 yard dash: Montgomery County
  • Short-shuttle / Pro-agility: PG County

  • Standing Broad Jump: Frederick & Carroll County

  • Registration information will be coming via email in the coming in early March.
  • Registration will be limited to the first 500 student-athletes.

Film Day –Eric Wade and Donnie Zimmerman

  • The MFCA Film Day washeld on Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday, Monday, January 19, 2015 at the Annapolis Area Christian School.
  • Over 40 colleges were present to recruit your players.
  • Well attended by high school coaches as well.

State Football Playoff Proposal –Joe Bosley III / John Kelley

  • A proposal to change the state football playoff format from its current format of the top four teams in each of four regions qualifying.
  • John Kelley, head football coach at Quince Orchard HS, will be spearheading this task and will conduct the research into the economic feasibility of this proposal.
  • The proposal was made to alter the playoff format to include the top two teams from each Region and the next eight highest point totals (wildcards).
  • Each of the eight Region entries would be seeded 1-8 by points and they would host first round games against the top eight wildcard teams. Game match-ups would be established in reverse order.
  • First and second round games will be played within the region.
  • The bracket would be set up as the state currently sets up the state playoffs.

Towson University Football– Derrick Johnson

  • The Towson Football Staff cordially invites you and your staff to our second annual Maryland Football Coaches Social at 1:00 on February 21st 2015. The purpose of this event is to help us get to know you better and to give you an open forum for communication. Roughly 60% of our roster comes from the state of Maryland... We want to make sure your voice is heard and your needs are met.

  • This is a free flowing & open ended event. If you want to talk ball, we will talk ball. If you want to talk recruiting, we will talk recruiting. Whatever it is you would like to do... We will do.
  • We plan to stay at the basketball game until halftime, but if you want to stay for the entire game, you are more than welcome to do so. Cost of admission will be $5.00 which will cover the cost of Beer and Food. Tickets for the game will be provided to you upon entry. Please bring your staff. NCAA Eligibility– Ryan Steinberg

  • Ryan Steinberg, formerly of the University of MD, has taken a position with the NCAA. He shared information regarding NCAA eligibility requirements and the impending changes to the requirements for the class of 2016 and the class of 2018.
  • Make certain you get your guidance staff to update the “Approved Course” list at your high school each semester.

Announcements

  • NOCAD convention was held in Annapolis Maryland, January 17-19, 2015. The MFCA is the host and partial sponsor of this event. Coaches, administrators and directors from 42 states converged on Annapolis, MD for this important annual meeting hosted by MFCA President Joe Russo.
