Opportunities & Sustainability Co-ordinator

Responsible to:

Opportunities Manager

Purpose:

Under the guidance of the Opportunities Manager, to oversee and develop:

  • The SU JobShop services;
  • SU Volunteering;
  • SU Green Team Sustainability & Green Impact projects;
  • SU Societies.

To ensure that the opportunities offered to students through the above tie in with the SU’s and the University of Gloucestershire’s strategic plans.

To ensure that the SU offers a diverse range of high quality opportunities to UoG students.

Specific Duties:

  • To run the above services in line with the aims and principles of the University of Gloucestershire SU.
  • To promote and raise awareness of the Opportunities service to students through a variety of methods and on an ongoing basis (Fayres, marketing material, social media, website).
  • To co-ordinate and develop the SU’s sustainability agenda through the promotion of Green Impact and the organisation of other sustainability events such as Fair Trade Fortnight and Earth Hour.
  • To actively engage with the local business and charity community through pro-active direct marketing, networking, writing promotional literature and liaising with intermediary organisations to find opportunities for students and to promote the SU’s Opportunity Department services.
  • To secure employment opportunities for students through direct company contact, recruitment agencies/job centres and the University.
  • To co-ordinate and develop ‘JobShop Temps’, monitoring the effectiveness of the service through stakeholder feedback.
  • To signpost students to relevant agencies e.g. Careers, HMRC, National Insurance Helpline, University, Volunteering Agencies, keeping up to date with relevant legislation and inform students through the website accordingly.
  • To keep the JobShop, Volunteering, Greener Gloucestershire and Societies web pages up to date and to monitor posters/notice boards that are in use, keeping them up to date.
  • To keep up to date with employability and volunteering issues and develop methods of engaging students in this area.
  • To coordinate delivery and support for the Green Impact programme to a variety of organisations in Gloucestershire
  • To recruit, train and support student volunteers to deliver Green Impact
  • To work with the University to deliver Green Impact to University Departments
  • To coordinate budget application, budget & finance planning and allocation of Societies
  • To support and encourage events and activities run as a partnership between more than one Society / Club
  • To coordinate and improve administrative systems, including room bookings, travel, finance and facilities hire for Societies
  • To coordinate the promotion of Societies
  • To coordinate the set-up of new Societies and support Society Committees
  • To maintainadministrative procedures and systems.
  • To attend the SU Team Meetings.
  • To liaise closely with the elected Community Full Time Officer.
  • To build positive links with University staff, particularly within the Sustainability, Degreeplus, Careers,Volunteering, Enterprise, Placements, HR departments and the recruiting managers.
  • To attend relevant University or external meetings.
  • To carry out all tasks in a sustainable manner, where possible.

To undertake any other duties and responsibilities commensurate with the grade of the post, properly directed by the line manager. These variations will not change the general character of the post or the level of responsibility entailed.

This job description is a guide to the work the post holder will be required to undertake. It may be amended from time to time to reflect changing circumstances through mutual agreement.

Information

Salary:£15,532 to £17,765 per annum

Hours:35 hours per week. Some flexible hours required.

Duration:Permanent

Location:Park Campus, Cheltenham, however the post holder may be required to work at other locations.

Benefits:25 days holiday plus 8 public holiday days plus 3 University closure days. Contributory pension scheme available.
