MANNA HONORS CHAMPIONS IN HEALTHCARE AND NUTRITION

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Philadelphia, PA – September 20, 2012

Today, MANNA celebrated its third annual Nourish Awards. The Nourish Awards were created to honor people and organizations who are taking a leading role in the healthcare and nutrition fields by improving health through nourishing the mind, body, and spirit of our community.

The awards luncheon took place at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel, 1200 Market Street, Philadelphia and was attended by xxx of MANNA’s supporters, friends and colleagues. (note other dignitaries if possible)

The 2012 Honorees were/are:

·  Citizens BankFoundation - In recognition of their keen commitment to providing hunger relief and nutrition assistance to citizens in need living in Eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.

·  Tri-State Renal Dietitians Association - In recognition of their passionate dedication to patients with chronic kidney disease.

·  Dr. Richard Cohen, President &CEO of Public Health Management Corporation (PHMC) - In recognition of his more than thirty years of innovative leadership in the public health management arena.

New this year, MANNA added the Nourish Health Symposium – “Functional Medicine & Food: Assessing Nutritional Interventions in the Disease Paradigm”. The accredited Nourish Health Symposium features a panel discussion moderated by Katie Cavuto Boyle, MS, RD and includes panelists; Dr. Joel Fuhrman, M.D. Research Director of the Nutritional research Project and author of the New York Times bestseller Eat to Live; Dr. Diane Radler, Ph.D., R.D. from University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey; Dr. Aminah Keats, ND, FABNO a naturopath from Cancer Treatment Centers of America. This event offers Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits for qualified health professionals and has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Pennsylvania Medical Society through the joint sponsorship of the Einstein Healthcare Network and MANNA. Einstein Healthcare Network is accredited by the Pennsylvania Medical Society to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians.

Nourish Symposium Panelists and Moderator

Joel Fuhrman, M.D. - A board-certified family physician and nutritional researcher specializing in preventing and reversing disease through nutritional and natural methods. Dr. Fuhrman is a best-selling author and has been on many radio and television programs. Dr. Fuhrman is a graduate of the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Medicine and is currently the Research Director of the Nutritional Research Foundation (a project of the National Health Association).

Diane Radler, Ph.D., R.D. - An Associate Professor of Nutritional Sciences as well as Director of the Institute for Nutritional Intervention at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ). Dr. Radler is widely published in the nutrition field and hasbeen honored for Outstanding Academic Performance and received the UMDNJ-SHRP Distinguished Alumna Award in 2004.

Aminah Keats, ND, FABNO - the Director of Naturopathic Medicine at CancerTreatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Eastern Regional MedicalCenter. Dr. Keats is a graduate of Spelman College and received her Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine degree from the University Of Bridgeport College Of Naturopathic Medicine. She is board certified in naturopathic medicine and has been published in Naturopathic Doctor News andReview.

Moderator - Katie Cavuto Boyle, MS, RD - began her quest for culinary knowledge at Johnson and Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island where she graduated with an ASin Culinary Arts and a BS in Culinary Nutrition. Upon graduation, Katie received her Master's Degree in Clinical Nutrition from Tufts University and became a Registered Dietitian. Katie teaches nutrition at West Chester University and is a regular contributor of ABC, FOX, NBC and CBSin Philadelphia as an expert in her field. Katie writes weekly for "Healthy Eats" a national nutrition blog on foodnextwork.com and for Philadelphia Magazine's "Be Well Philly".
