Academic Civics – 25 Pts.
Perth Amboy is looking to establish a sister city partnership with [insert country of your choice], but in order to do so, they’re requesting a brochure or powerpoint about the city of Perth Amboy. Thus, you need to make some type of product that informs our international friends about the City of Perth Amboy. Assume they know nothing about our city! The brochure/powerpoint/prezi should contain at least the following:
· A brief history of PA. Why was the city created? What major events have happened in its history?
· An explanation of how the government operates in the city of PA:
o Explain the role of city council
§ Who chooses city council?
§ How do they make ordinances?
§ Why are wards important?
o Explain the role of the mayor and city manager
§ Do we have a weak or strong mayor? Explain.
§ Do we have a council-manager or council-mayor system? Explain.
§ Who chooses the mayor and city manager?
· Briefly explain the economy of PA. What are the major sources of jobs and how does the city generate its revenue?
· Provide some other important facts/details (at least 10) about the city. I’ll leave this one up to you. Possible suggestions:
o Population from last Census
o Forms of recreation in the city
o Services provided by the city
o Etc.
· Make sure to include pictures/graphics/statistics in your presentation and make sure it’s neat and presentable. Spelling/grammar will be graded as well.
Rubric:
Brief History of PA– 5 pts
Explanation of Government – 5 pts.
Economy of PA – 5 pts
Other Facts/Details about the city – 5 pts.
Includes graphics and is presentable – 5 pts.
Presentation – 5 pts.
Total – 30 pts. X 10 = 300 pts

Students may work alone or in pairs
All projects must be completed by agreed date
All work must be web based for presentation
