GEN-01 NEW YEAR’S OLIVES SIRINCE – IZMIR 05.01 – 18.01 AGRI – 10 VOLS
The very first work camp of 2015 welcomes you to collect olives in a natural environment. Math village is a math-summer school located in the nature and owns over 1000 olive trees and harvest about 20 tons of olives per year. The oil produced by the collected olives is used in the kitchen of the summer school. W: Volunteers will collect olives from the trees and pack. But if the olive harwest is low due to the weather conditions (If there will be not enough olive to pick) the volunteers will be requested to do other manual works in the facility). A: In student dormitories for 6 people with shared toilet and bathroom. Sleeping bag and mat are not necessary. F: Will be supplied at the center. LA: English. LO: Sirince is a small village in the west of Turkey. Please be aware that the venue of the Math Village is a bit isolated. No night life, TV or disco is available at the venue but there is internet conncetion. The next village Sirince, which is only 20 minutes by foot, is very attractive and famous for its homemade wines and traditional architecture. The nearest town Selcuk, which is the home of world famous Ephessus open-air museum The nearest city Izmir, is one hour away by coach. T:İstanbul. The project will start in Istanbul with a compulsory orientation meeting, that all volunteers should attend on the first day of the camp at GENCTUR Office. The group will travel together to the camp site by a coach on the same evening.
GEN-02 ENGLISH FOR VILLAGE WOMEN SEGERIHIDAR - IZMIR 01.04 – 30.04 TEACH 1 VOLS
Ulamis Village Women House is a civic enterprice of Seferihisar Municipality in İzmir province. Women of the village are attending various courses and trainings at this enterprice and now requesting an English course. GENÇTUR will supply one female volunteer who is supposed to teach to and practice English with the women of the village. This is also a big chance for the volunteers who are interested in learning about the situation of the women in Turkey as the Inhabitantas are not only the locals but also the migrants from the other cities.Camp days can be extended if the volunteer is available.W: Teaching English to the women of the village. A: The volunteer will stay in a house in the village. Sleeping bag is not necessary. F: Will be supplied by the village women. R: Volunteers must be female and at least 20 yeard old. A motivation letter with a Skype ID for the interview should be sent along with the application form.LA: Turkish will be helpful but not a must. English is the camp language. Do you want to make a work camp with your close friends, class mates or volunteers of your previous work camp, just alert them. Or if you are an individual or a couple, but prefer to be in a smaller group. GENÇTUR can host up to 5 individuals or 5 people from the same country for the same period. The host, Math Village needs small group of volunteers for different daily tasks during the spring and summer. This camp will give you a chance to meet a lot of Turkish young people (if there is a course during the dates you apply for) who will be participating in mathematic courses in the center. But please also be aware that if you apply as an individual, for a certain period, you might be the only volunteer in these date span if by bad luck there is no other application for the same dates. W:Construction, reconstruction, renovation, landscaping, gardening, class cleaning and kitchen works at a non-formal education center. A:In dormitories until 1st of June. After 1st of June under the supplied tents. Sleeping bag and mat are necessary in both cases. If you prefer privacy you can bring your own tent.F: Food is provided at the venue. Volunteers help the staff for preparing, cooking the meals and setting up the tables. LA: English.LO: Sirince is a small village in the west of Turkey. Please be aware that the center is a bit isolated. No night life, TV or disco is available at the center, but there is internet connection. The next village Sirince, which is only 15 minutes by foot, is very attractive and famous for its homemade wines and traditional architecture. The nearest town Selcuk, which is the home of world famous Ephessus open-air museum nearest city Izmir, is one hour away by coach. T: Volunteers of this camp can fly directly to İzmir and then take a train to Selcuk. If a group of 5 people applies together and wish to fly to Istanbul first, GENCTUR can arrange their return coach travel between Istanbul – Izmir, at their own cost. Extra Fee: Individuals can apply free of charge. 3 and more applications from the same country is subject to a charge of 100 Euro per person. This cost is shared with the host to buy working materials.
GEN-04 KOPGENC FESTIVAL KARAMAN 29.04 – 13.05 FEST 15 VOLS
International KOP-GENÇ Festival, ( aims to bring different youth NGOs together, in order to introduce themselves to each other from all over the world and to the youth of the provinces in central Turkey. The festival itself will be a 6 days event between 06-11 April. Activities like concerts, exhibitions, panels, NGO fair, fine art ateliers, etc. will be a part of the festival. Young volunteers of 18-30 age will be preferred for this project.W: Helping to the organization committee for realizing the festival i.e. setting up the activity areas and stands in the fair area, setting up tents for accommodation, assist the ateliers, clean up the environment after the activities. Volunteers are also expected to organize an international group activity like a drama or any kind of performance and to help to foldup the tents after the festival.
A: Accomodation will be at dorm during the first week of the camp, second week under the tents. Sleeping bags and mats will be supplied. Food will be served at the site. LA: English. GEN-06 STONE SCHOOL ORHANELI – BURSA 04.05 – 18.05 RENO 10 VOLS
Stone School was build first in 1925 and used as a primary school till 1978 and then left unused for 33 years. In 2011 it has been renovated to be used as part of the university. Although the construction is completed the landscaping work is needed. W: Volunteers will work for the landscaping of the garden where the school is located in. A: Volunteers will stay in the dormitory of the school. Sleeping bag and mat are not necessary. F: Will be supplied at the school. LA: English. LO : Orhaneli is a rural town of Bursa province, located in the nature, in the northwest of Turkey. T: GENCTUR office in Istanbul. The project will start in Istanbul with a compulsory orientation meetingthat all volunteers should attend on the first day of the camp in GENCTUR Office. All volunteers will travel together to the camp site by a coach on the nextday 05.05.15 Tuesday. Thus 1 overnight stay in Istanbul is compulsory GENÇTUR will arrange a hostel accommodation for the volunteers with an extra cost of 15 Euro for bed and breakfast.
GEN-09 WATER LILY-WOMEN ONLY DUZCE 30.05 – 16.06 RENO – KIDS5 VOLS
The Water Lily Women Cooperative is running a kindergarten for the kids of the working mothers of Duzce city. In order to raise fund they also organize different activities related with their jobs. Producing hand made food like jam, tomato sauce, powder soup and selling them is a source of income for the cooperative. They need female volunteers to help them for preparing the year end party, to decorate the walls, play games and sing songs with the kids, welcome the guests, etc. The volunteers will also help the staff to run activities with the kids. If you can play a portable instrument, or teach some games to the kids, able to do handicrafts you are very welcome. W: Helping for the party organization and running activities for the kids, together with the staff. Also some gardening works will be a part of your work. A: In the kindergarten. Sleeping bag and mat are not necessary. F: Will be supplied at the site. LA: English. LO: Duzce is a big city in the north-west of Turkey. Camp site is in the suburb of the city. GEN-10 TEACH CAMP-1 SAMSUN 30.05 – 14.06 TEACH - KIDS 5 VOLS
Do you like children and can you teach them very basic English like days of the week, the hours, counting up to 100 by games or make daily talks with them and play with them. If yes, you will enjoy a lot for being in this camp. The primary school kids in a small village will be waiting for you impatiently and you will have unforgettable memories with them. W: practicing basic English with primary school kids. A: In a village house, sleeping bad and mat arenecessary. F: Will be supplied at the site. LA: English is the camp language. Turkish will be helpful but not a must. LO: Kumköy is a small village in the north of Turkey in Black Sea region. GEN-12 LOCAL FESTIVAL ORHANELI – BURSA 01.06 – 16.06 FEST 15 VOLS
Orhaneli town is hosting a big local festival every year. Thousands of people gather for the festival and enjoy it. W: Volunteers will help to the organization committee to prepare the festival and work for setting up the stage and the stands, cleaning the area, marking the ground, landscaping, etc. The volunteer group is also expected perform a show. Therefore any volunteer with skills on circus or street arts like juggling, clowning, stick walking, tightrope dancing-walking, fire blowing, capoera , mime, graffiti, acrobacy, illusion, face painting, origami, balloon shaping, etc., are especially welcome. A: The volunteers will be accommodation in a students dormitory. Sleeping bag and mat are not necessary. F: Will be supplied by the municipality. LA: English. LO : Orhaneli is a rural town of Bursa province, located in the nature, in the northwest of Turkey.T: GENCTUR office in Istanbul. GEN-13 VILLAGE ROAD SEVKETIYE–CANAKKALE 01.06–16.06 CONS-RENO 12 VOLS
Sevketiye is a small village by the sea of Marmara. Summer is a busy period as people from other towns come and visit the village. The locals are planning to pave the road going to the small harbour before the the summer comes. W: Paving stones on the road to get rid of the mud. A: Volunteers will stay in a building by the sea side and sleep on the floor, sleeping bag and mat are necessary. Food: Will be cooked at the same building by a cook by the help of volunteers. LA: English. LO: Sevketiye is in the northwest of Turkey & close to antic site Troy, Assos & Gallipoli battle fields. Nearest city is Canakkale. T: Istanbul. The project will start in Istanbul with a compulsory orientation meeting, that all volunteers should attend on the first day of the camp at GENCTUR Office. The group will travel together to the camp site by an overnight coach on the same evening.
GEN-14 TEACH CAMP-2 CAN-CANAKKALE 12.06 – 26.06 TEACH 3 VOLS
Can is a town with 30.000 inhabitants and famous for its ceramic factory. GENCTUR is organizing teach camps to practice English with the pupils of different schools every year. This year our volunteers will help the 14-17 age group students of İbrahim Bodur High School, to practice English by close contacts with foreigners. GENCTUR is looking for at least 20 years old volunteers who have a good level of English to realize this aim. W: Practicing English with the teenagers. Each volunteer will deal with a group of teens in turn, each day & session. A: In a guesthouse. The sleeping bag and mat are not necessary. F: Will be supplied at the venue, some dinners may be offered by the families of the students. LA: English. R: Volunteers must be at least 20 years old, have a good level of English and some teaching experience. A motivation letter containing a Skype ID must be sent together with the application form. Applicants will be interviewed via Skype before being confirmed. LO: Can is in the northwest of Turkey & close to antic site Troy, Assos & Gallipoli battle fields. Nearest city is Canakkale. GEN-15 TEACH CAMP-3 YESILYURT-TOKAT 12.06 – 28.06 TEACH 2 VOLS
Primary school kids in 10-14 age group of Yesilyurt (Greenland) town are very excited to meet foreign volunteers and to have face to face conversation classes with them. In the past 2 years we had a very successful project in this small town and both the volunteers and the kids were very happy for being together. International volunteers will practice English with the kids through games, talks, conversations, dialogs, competitions and activities.W: Practicing English with kids. Each volunteer will deal with a group of pupils in turn, each day & session. A: In a student dormitory. The sleeping bag and mat are not necessary. F: Will be supplied at the venue, some dinners may be offered by the families of the students. LA: English. R: Volunteers must have a good level of English. GEN-17 SUMMER CAMP-1 CIVRIL-DENIZLI 29.06 - 15.07 SOCI – EDU 15 VOLS
Civril town hosted the first international work camp last year. The impact was very positive thus the municipality is going to host 2 different groups this year for a summer camp project. If you are a talkative, friendly, smiling person you are welcome to practise English with the local kids and youngsters. The summer camp will contain different sport sessions and practising English will be an additional part of the program. Although volunteers mainly will focus on practising English, any additional talent will be appreciated. Volunteers who can play an instrument, organize a drama, teach indoor - outdoor games, will be preferred. Volunteers are also expected to make a presentation of their country and culture. But the most important feature is speaking English. This camp offers a high level close contact with the locals. Anyone who has time, can stay longer and join in the following camp GEN-26 between 20.07 – 03.08. The accommodation and food will be served free of charge between 15-20 July, if you join in both camps. W: Practising English with the local kids and young people between 13-23 age group. A: Volunteers will stay in a kindergarten. Sleeping bag and mat are not necessary. F: Will be supplied at the site. LA: English. LO: Civril is a town in the west of Turkey. Nearest city is Denizli.
