“Let’s put on a show!”

Nothing is quite as much fun as being on stage! Children love the opportunity to be part of a theatrical production.

The Children’s Theater Workshops at the Sherman give them that experience and more.

  • While preparing a musical play, workshop members learn basic stage skills and let their imaginations soar!
  • Theater games and exercises are an important part of every session.
  • Every “show” is made up of a team of individuals who learn to support each other as they develop as performers.
  • Positive cast interaction and the value of everyone’s contribution are strongly emphasized.
  • Plays are selected from publishers who specialize in musicals for children and are always age-appropriate.
  • Workshop members not only learn songs, dialogue, and movement, but also make choices for scenery and costumes for their show.
  • Of course, the actual performance is the highlight of the workshop! From “curtain up” to the final ovation, the enjoyment is shared by family and friends.
  • This summer, we have the privilege of performing our shows on the stage of the historic Sherman Theater!

When workshop members return for a second and even a third year, they continue to grow and benefit from the program. Each new workshop brings a new play and a new group of performers – and new friends.

The skills the youngsters learn are lessons for theatrical performances in the community and in their schools, and often provide them with life skills as well.

“The photos taken at our Music in the Mountains event on Tuesday are now available …

I am reminded again how wonderful the performances were and how much we appreciate you and all the hard work your group put in.

Please thank them all again for us here at Shawnee Press.

You have such a special gift with children, keep it up, the world is a better place.

Best, Bev Rogers

“I just wanted to say thank you again for your efforts towards this year's Theater Workshop. Andrew just loved it, and I can see his confidence growing. I still can't believe he has wanted to do this since he has been more on the reserved side. This has really given him confidence and has helped him so much. As I've said before, the benefits of the workshop extend well beyond the stage!

Many thanks,

Tom and Tina Thornton”
