- Revisit some familiar letter sounds and their actions.
- know and understand that words are made up of sounds.
- Identify the beginning, middle and ending sound in three letter words.
Recap: show some familiar letter sound cards to the children and ask them for the sound and the actions.
Now do some familiar actions and ask children for the sounds they represent.
Sing oa, song with children
Read the oa story with the children ask for actions.
Introduction :
Show objects: pan, box, bug, doll, pen and ask children to name the objects and ask for the beginning sound.
Do three actions ask children what did I do in the beginning, what did I do in the end? What did I do in the middle?
Draw a snake on the board, color it in three shades.
Ask children: What comes in the beginning?
What goes in the middle?
What is the end of the snake? (Face, tummy, tail ).
Show the same objects again ask for the first sound, the ending sound and the middle sound. Write underneath the snake beginning, middle, end.
Model the use of some material on circle time mat ( if possible )
Disperse children into groups: Small group activity:
Show pictures of objects such as pen, top, hen, bug, pan. Ask children to name the objects.
Show children the word cards of the same and read the cards along with them. Play a game by asking children to match different pictures to their word cards.
Give the worksheet and have the children match the pictures.
Rotate groups – bring class back- and recap briefly. / 5 min

Coloured white board markers red, blue, black.
Pictures of objects: pen, top, hen, bug, pan.

Show the correct action for the sound card shown.
Say the sound for the action shown.
Say the beginning, middle and ending sounds of some common objects.
Match some common picture cards to their matching word cards.
Match 5 words to the correct picture.
