The San Jose State Alumni Association, Santa Cruz Chapter sponsors scholarships to support Santa Cruz County students whoenroll at San José State University. The generosity of our members and friends has enabled usto award approximately $20,000 annually to deserving Santa Cruz County students who enroll full-time at SJSU. This award is the third largest among Alumni Associations within the CSU system. This year, the Santa Cruz Chapter is offering $500 to $2000 in renewable scholarships to deserving students who will be transferring to San Jose State University in the Fall 2017 semester.

Eligibility

Applicants must have enrolled in and completed at least 9 units for the Fall 2016 semester. Incompletes will not be counted toward units completed. Applicants must also maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA for all Cabrillo College work and be transferring to San Jose State University in Fall 2017.

Instructions- Please read carefully.

Each document of your application packet must include your name and SJSU Student Identification Number.

Type or print in black ink only. Your application will be photocopied. Applications not typed or written in black ink will be disqualified. It is recommended that your application, student statement and letter of recommendation be typed.

Illegible applications will NOT be reviewed.

Ø  Student Statement: Attach a one page statement describing your academic objectives, your future goals and any personal experiences that have impacted the pursuit of your education. Also describe any community involvement, academic honors received, extra-curricular activities, and athletic programs in which you have participated. Please include your name and SJSU Student Identification Number. Type or print in black ink.

Ø  Recommendation Letters: Please submit (2) one-page letters of recommendation written by individuals who are familiar with your academic progress, future goals and any extenuating personal circumstances. At least one letter must be from a Cabrillo College Instructor. Be sure your name and SJSU Student Identification Number are included on your recommendations. Type or print in black ink. The letters of recommendation are very important. The Scholarship Committee relies heavily on this reference. Submit only two letters of recommendation. Additional letters will be discarded.

Ø  Transcripts: It is not necessary to attach Cabrillo transcripts to your application. The Financial Aid & Scholarships Office will print and attach a copy to forward with your application. You must attach transcripts from any previous colleges or universities attended to your application.

Ø  Interviews: Finalists will be selected from the pool of qualified applicants to be interviewed for consideration of awards. Finalists will be contacted by phone one week before interviews to schedule an appointment time. Interviews take place in late April or early May 2017.

Recipient Status: Students will be notified of their recipient status in May 2017. Funds will be released during the Fall 2017 semester upon verification of full-time enrollment. Recipients are invited to an Alumni reception on the SJSU campus in the fall.
