Plant Operator

Summary/Objective:
The Plant Operator is responsible for plant production. He/she performs plant clean-up, general labor & provides back-up support to other team members as needed.
Duties & Responsibilities Include:
  • Leads and coordinates production activities for the Plant.
  • Operates and controls the Plant process and equipment, including automated control screens, control boards, conveyors, belts, bucket elevators, screw augers, classifiers, screens, crushers, dryer/kiln, mills, and baghouses.
  • Operates and observes the control board equipment and gauges, including automated control screens to monitor process and to detect malfunctions and faulty operations.
  • Monitors & analyzes process variation & makes necessary adjustments to the process in order to achieve desired production level & quality.
  • Conducts quality control measures during operations to determine if process changes are necessary.
  • Assigns plant tasks to the team members available on shift, including materials handling, quality assurance, preventative maintenance, clean up, and other required tasks.
  • Continually inspects and examines the process and equipment on a frequent & routine basis throughout the shift to predict failures safety & environmental concerns.
  • Conveys any & all pertinent information in a timely & responsible manner to the Supervisor or Management.
  • Maintains & records all operating logs & reports by recording all routine inspections, process failures or successes, equipment adjustments or repairs, blends of materials, shipments and any note-worthy items.
  • Recommends necessary & desired equipment changes, modifications, and other process adjustments through the assigned chain of command to assure future profitability improvements.
  • Provides other team members with training & development opportunities in preparation for future advancements.
  • Provides support necessary to complete tasks, including assisting with movement & loading of various materials, quality assurance, repairs of equipment and necessary maintenance during plant outages & special projects.
  • Loads finished product onto trucks using the bulk system and/or mobile equipment.
  • Monitors & maintains accurate shipment information via ticketing system/logs.
  • Works directly with the freight carriers delivering raw material and finished products to customers.
  • Adheres to all Company policies & procedures.
  • Performs other duties as directed by the Foreman, Supervisor or Manager.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to carry out oral and written instructions.
Basic mathematical skills and familiarity with common units of measurements.
Ability to speak, read and write the English language.
Ability to operate a computer proficiently.
Ability to operate a two-way radio.
Ability to detect safety hazards and equipment malfunctions and to respond accordingly.
Ability to analyze & solve problems as identified.
Ability to lead & give instructions.
Ability to meet all essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to the following, will be worn as required during the course of the job: hard hat, safety glasses, safety-toed footwear, reflective and high visibility clothing, gloves, fall protection harness and lanyard, seat belt, respirator, and hearing protection. Periodic use of function specific PPE may be required.
