A004428447 – RETIREMENT FACILITY AT 30 ANDREW AVE TARRAGINDI

Dear Sir/ Madam

By way of introduction, I am a local resident.

I am writing to you to voice my continued objection of the proposal by Retire Australia to build a 5 storey 94 unit complex on the site of the Tarragindi Bowls Club (Sport and Recreation Zone). This submission responds to the applicant’s latest amendments on 29 November 2017.

I believe this is not in the best interests of the community for the following key reasons:

  • There were over 1,500 submissions during the formal public notification period. This community does not support this proposal.
  • There are many choices for independent living retirement options nearby in Yeronga, Holland Park, Sunnybank, Coorparoo, Robertson and Mt Gravatt.
  • Tarragindi is a well-established low density residential area without any medium – high development as proposed. This will set a precedent for it to happen elsewhere in Tarragindi.
  • There is no provision for this type and scale of development in the Brisbane City Plan for Tarragindi. If approved, Brisbane City Council will again be overriding the established vision for the city by supporting developer pressure.
  • Once the opportunity to enhance the Sport and Recreation land is gone, it will be lost for generations.
  • This site is not on a Transport Corridor. Weekend bus services on Andrew Avenue operate every 2 hours – a low frequency suburban route. Retirees prefer to use private transportation if possible.

Tarragindi is a suburb made up of residents who love and value the quiet, family orientated community lifestyle in a suburb of character. We have decided to live here for this very reason. An apartment complex like this is not what the residents want for Tarragindi. Medium high density projects have a place and are catered for in the Brisbane City Plan.. The Brisbane City Plan zones appropriately located land for such intensity of development in proximity to services and transportation. Tarragindi is not one of these zones and the neighbourhood plan does not support medium high density development. Brisbane’s green spaces both privately and publicly owned are a critical part of the city and should be held in such importance rather than being eroded by inappropriate development.

Please register this letter as further objection to the redevelopment of the Tarragindi Bowls Club/ Sport and Recreation Zoned land.
