Launch of the EU funded project

"Support to Enforcement of intellectual property rights"

in the Republic of Moldova

On 22 March 2017 the official launch of the project "Support to enforcement of the intellectual property rights" in the Republic of Moldova (EuropeAid / 137 467 / DH / SER / MD) took place. The project implemented by the State Agency on Intellectual Property of the Republic of Moldova (AGEPI) aims at improving the implementation and enforcement of intellectual property rights in the Republic of Moldova.

The event was attended by the Deputy Secretary General of the Government of the Republic of Moldova, the representative of the Delegation of the European Union in Chisinau, representatives of the project beneficiary institutions,the judiciary system, research and development institutions, civil society. The Hungarian Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, H.E. Mr. Mátyás Szilágyi and the Italian Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, H.E. Ms. Valeria Biagiotti attended the event.

At the conference opening the Director General of AGEPI, Mr. Octavian Apostol mentioned that the project will contribute to the efficient interaction between intellectual property rights enforcement bodies, as well to improving the business environment, disciplining the economic agents and consumers, and improving the investment image of the country. "AGEPI, as the beneficiary institution, will make every effort to successfully achieve these ambitious goals," empathised Octavian Apostol.

Charge d'affaires at the Delegation of the European Union in the Republic of Moldova Mr. Mindaugas Kacerauskis stated that the project is for institutions which are directly related to the implementation of Chapter 9 of the Association Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union, which refers to intellectual property. "Exchange of information between the institutions is a key factor of this project", added Mindaugas Kacerauskis.

Mr. Valentin Guznac, Deputy Secretary General of the Government of the Republic of Moldova mentioned that the implementation of the project will contribute to improving the legislative framework on intellectual property rights, strengthen communication and exchange of information between institutions with responsibilities in the field and will develop a protection system and capitalization of geographical indications in the Republic of Moldova. "Given that the project objective has an exhaustive coverage upon the entire system of intellectual property, for its realization we are willing to contribute, upon request, by providing the necessary support to achieve a greater impact of AGEPI activities and a high level of recommendations of EU experts" said Valentin Guznac.

At the same time, the Project Director from the leading company of the consortium, Archidata Srl, Ms. Andreea Comşa, said that the project has a very important goal in improving the legal framework in the field of intellectual property. "On behalf of the Consortium and the project team I want to assure you that we’ll make every effort for this project to successfully achieve its objectives" concluded Andreea Comşa.

Subsequently, the international experts, Mr. Ioannis Sidiropoulos and Mr. Yuriy Kapitsa, made a presentation of the project, focusing on the key components and activities designed to ensure achievement of its specific objectives.

The Technical Assistance project "Support to enforcement of the intellectual property rights" in the Republic of Moldova, with a budgetof about 2 million euros, is funded by the European Union and is implemented by a Consortium led by Archidata Srl (Italy) together with European Profiles SA (Greece) and Business and Strategies in Europe S.A. (Belgium) for a period of 2 years until November 2018.

The project’s beneficiary is the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI), together with partner co-beneficiaries Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Interior, General Prosecutor's Office, Customs Service and the Consumer Protection Agency. Also, the project activities aim to reach all relevant stakeholders, including governmental and nongovernmental organizations, the judiciary system, research and development institutions, IP associations, the business sector and civil society.
