JOB FUNCTION

The Sonographer provides support and care to clients and maintains professional standards of care and patient confidentiality. Under the general supervision of the Medical Director and Clinic Director, the Sonographer helps women make informed decisions about their pregnancies by providing compassionate care and by providing ultrasounds for the medical indications of estimating gestational age and determining viability. The Sonographer also works in conjunction with physicians, other health care professions, and client advocates to assure that patients are receiving the best medical and psychosocial care possible.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES – ESSENTIAL FUNCTION OF JOB

A. Administrative Duties:

1.  Implements Care Net’s Mission Statement, Statement of Principle, policies, rules and regulations.

2.  Serves as a resource for clinic staff and volunteers

3.  Assists Clinic Director in preparation of annual budget for clinic related expenses.

4.  Monitors clinic related expenses.

B. Client Care:

1.  Meet with clients for pregnancy counseling, education and referrals as needed.

2.  Maintain accurate records, and adheres to physician’s standing orders.

3.  Provide education for patient and family to develop an understanding of their health condition.

4.  Perform sonograms, with all appropriate documentation, to clients who are eligible for a medically indicated ultrasound.

5.  Allow client to view ultrasound screen and respond to questions within scope of training and licensing.

6.  Communicate with physician for advisement as patient assessment, history or ultrasound findings necessitate.

7.  Provide referrals for care as needed.

8.  Chart ultrasound findings and any relevant information discussed with client.

9.  Collaborate with Clinic Director for review of charts and plan of care for each client seen.

10.  Be familiar with and follow all clinic policies and procedures.

11.  Maintain accurate and complete client records, and adheres to physician’s standing orders.

12.  Maintain confidentiality.

13.  Provides patient follow-up.

14.  Arrange for the care of clients presenting with possible pregnancy complications.

15.  Contact Clinic Director for questions that fall outside of your training or expertise.

C. Staff and Volunteer Development:

1. Participate in staff meetings.

D. Quality Improvement & Management:

1.  Participates in Quality Improvement Meetings, approximately 1 - 2 times per year, to evaluate the clinic services, policies, procedures and protocols.

2.  Maintains standards for the proper use, care, and handling of equipment, facilities and supplies to keep costs in line and prevent unexpected losses.

E. Professional and Personal Development:

1.  Maintains professional license.

2.  Increases knowledge of women’s health issues and sonography.

3.  Attends medical conferences which offer professional training and information pertinent to the clinic’s practices as approved by Clinic Director/Chief Executive Officer.

F. Public Relations:

1.  Promotes the services of Care Net Pregnancy Center in the medical community.

2.  Participates in fund-raising projects, grant writing and programs under the direction of the Development Director

3.  Represents the specific services of the organization in the community for the purpose of increasing relationships with physicians, clientele, volunteer help and financial support.

G. Other: As assigned by Clinic Director.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

A. Experience in obstetrical ultrasound is preferred.

B. Ability to use computer and related software, concise writing, good communication skills.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

A.  Hold a current and active license as an RDMS in the state of Wisconsin or be a Registered Nurse with a certificate of completion from an ultrasound course that adheres to AWHONN, ACOG, or AIUM guidelines; along with having completed the required number of supervised scans.

B.  Maintains current CPR certification.

C.  Must complete Care Net’s volunteer training.

D.  Be in full agreement with Care Net’s Statement of Principles, Statement of Purpose and Statement of Faith and Values Statement.

E.  Must have faith in God and have accepted salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ, daily living in a vibrant relationship with God which would be evidenced in life, work, thought and deed.
