Provide individual and couples therapy as well as personal consultations to the university population. Both brief and long-term therapy is utilized with clients possessing a wide range of presenting issues. Responsibilities include psychotherapy, crisis intervention, diagnosing mental disorders, formulating treatment plans, and consulting with faculty and staff when appropriate. Conduct outreach activities on a number of topics including women’s issues and issues of diversity, and serve on various committees such as faculty senate and the University Retention Committee. Provide clinical supervision to a graduate assistant and advise Exploratory Program students. Conduct research and participate in scholarly activities.

City of Lancaster 01/06-Present City Councilwoman

Attend council meetings on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month, as well as committee meetings on the first Tuesday of the month and as needed. Present at executive meetings as needed. Vote on ordinances (laws) and resolutions impacting city policy and procedure, serving as a member of the legislative branch of city government. Perform important functions such as (but not limited to) amending and approving the annual budget of the city, authorizing the sale and purchase of city owned buildings, voting on zoning and historic preservation issues, approving city taxation policy, and addressing public safety and neighborhood issues. Liaison to the Library Board and the School District of Lancaster. Serve as a steward of the community by participating in events such as non-profit fundraisers, award ceremonies, community events, volunteer opportunities, as well as other proceedings. Remain accessible and responsive to the public.

MillersvilleUniversity, Department of Women’s Studies 08/03-12/03 Primary Instructor: Feminist Research

Full responsibility for teaching Feminist Research, including the planning of lectures and discussion topics, the creation and administration of evaluation materials, and the assignment of course grades. Discussion/lecture format. One section taught.

ArizonaStateUniversity Counseling and ConsultationCenter 08/01-08/02 Psychology Intern

Provided individual, couples, group therapy, and personal consultations to a large and diverse university population. Brief therapy with clients was emphasized, but long-term clients were allowed for training purposes. Responsibilities often included conducting psychotherapy; performing personal consultations with prospective clients; diagnosing mental disorders according to DSM-IV criteria when needed; and formulating treatment recommendations for a multidisciplinary treatment team. Also supervised masters of social work practicum student. Participated in a specialty rotation in eating disorders, including individual and group counseling, educational and outreach services. Provided on-call and daytime emergency/crisis intervention services. Attended weekly training seminars.

John T. Montford Psychiatric Unit 07/00-06/01 Research and Clinical Assistant

Responsibilities included psychological assessment with an offender population in a psychiatric inpatient setting, primarily as a member of the psychological assessment team. The population consisted of male offenders with various custody levels, SES, ethnic backgrounds, and presenting pathology. Many of these inmates had extensive multiaxial comorbidity, including mental illness, substance addiction, borderline intellectual functioning, characterological issues, and medical illnesses. Inmate’s age ranged from 18 years to geriatric patients. Specific responsibilities included reviewing both clinical and criminal records; administering, scoring and interpreting psychological tests; conducting clinical interviews; diagnosing mental disorders according to DSM-IV criteria; preparing integrative psychological evaluations; formulating treatment recommendations for a multidisciplinary treatment team; and consulting with other mental health professionals regarding case management. Primary assessment instruments used included objective personality tests, neurocognitive screening measures, as well as instruments designed to assess malingering and risk of suicide and violence.

TexasTechUniversity, Department of Psychology 01/00-05/00 Primary Instructor: Abnormal Psychology

Responsible for all phases of teaching a senior-level undergraduate Abnormal Psychology course, including the preparation and administration of lectures, construction and administration of examinations, and the computation and assignment of course grades. Lecture format with approximately 50 undergraduate students. One section taught.
