BRIEF EXPLANATION OF WHY YOU WANT TO BE A KAIROS WEEKEND LEADER:

I’m very passionate about this ministry. I feel called to do God’s will, and feel as if He is calling me to take this on. Who am I to deny God?

HOME CHURCH & YEARS IN ATTENDANCE (Religious affiliation, years attended, leadership positions held if any:

Catholic, but I’m not defined by where I practice my faith, as my faith is in God. And my faith is about a relationship with God.

I was raised catholic, and still practicing at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Marysville, Ohio. I have been a parishioner for about 16 years.

I’m also in the Knights of Columbus, but hold no positions.

PERSONAL TESTIMONY (optional):

I grew up in a broken home where lots of abuse took place. My father was rarely around and when he was, he was usually high or drunk. That led to unnecessary abuse whether physical, mental or emotional. My mother was a great woman but overwhelmed with raising us kids and dealing with my father’s addictions. Our house became one of enabling. The enabling was based off the fact that my mother wanted only to keep the peace and keep the family together.

My mom and dad divorced when I was 9 or 10 and that had a great impact in my life. Needless to say my mother was left with a situation that caused her to work fulltime, raise 7 boys and try and work through a divorce – all of this caused tremendous confidence issues for my brothers and me – and it showed and came out in many ways. My dad would duck in and out of our lives. We’d see him for a couple months, then nothing for years. Then he’d show up again. Most of my brothers started partying at a very young age and got caught up in the wrong crowd. The whole time I was looking for something to fill a void. I was out chasing girls at a very young age as I had very little, if any supervision.

From there I lived a reckless lifestyle, battling drug and alcohol issues, and allowing my demons to get the best of me for the great part of 15-20 years. This left me contemplating suicide at times.

I have taken advantage of women and defiled my body by living in the flesh instead of the spirit. I have had numerous DUIs and participated in various other criminal activities that have landed me in jail a few times. I found God the year I got married, 1998, while sitting in jail. I was serving time for my 3rd and last DUI. From there I remained a functional addict for a few years, and finally give my full life to God about 5 years into my marriage. I had been married for 10 years and when I found out my then wife was having an affair, which led to our divorce.

God led me to Kairos, and it has played a major role in my life.

My oldest brother has been locked up for the last 28yrs, he’s still locked up today. He attended his Kairos weekend about 15-20 years ago. That led my mom to attending a Kairos Outside weekend and then involved in Kairos herself. From there I attended several Kairos inside closing and reunions at Marion Correctional until I attended my first Kairos weekend at Madison Correctional. I am now currently divorce and have been for the last 7 years. I’m raising my daughters by myself and in the faith. My ex-wife and I get along well and work for the common good of the girls.

All of this is possible through my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
