Purpose of the role

The SLN, a consortium of 3 higher education, 8 Further Education Colleges, 3 Local Authorities a LEP and a council of training providers in Sussex, has recently secured £3.9M funding over two years from the Higher Education Funding Council (HEFCE) to deliver the National Collaborative Outreach Programme (NCOP) in Sussex.

The SLN/COP project will identify and address issues around progression to higher education for young people living in areas where progression is low overall, and particularly low when GCSE attainment is taken into account. The overall aim is boost the take-up of higher education ensuring that the project’s targets for improved accessinto higher education are met within the identified areas and timescales. Activity will commence from January2017 and will be undertaken with young people (in Years 9-13), key influencers (parents, carers, guardians and teachers) and communities.

The post holder will be responsible for
Demonstrating the impact of the NCOP programme is an important key performance indicator. Effective monitoring, evaluation and reporting is critical to the success of this project. This role will develop, implement and maintain data collection and monitoring systems as defined by the Programme Manager – Research and Evaluation, in accordance with funder requirements.

Main areas of responsibility:

  • Inform, advise and support partners and stakeholders to establish effective monitoring and evaluation reporting mechanisms.
  • To manage the collation of information in a variety of formats from stakeholders and partners, ensuring that data is provided in accordance with agreed data reporting protocols. Effectively manage inconsistent and incomplete data returns.
  • To input accurate data into a range of specialist data systems, including the Higher Education Access Tracker (HEAT) ensuring a high degree of accuracy.
  • Interpret data for evaluation and monitoring purposes.
  • Prepare detailed reports and information for key stakeholders, the steering group and HEFCE.
  • Represent SLN:NCOP at the HEAT Data Users Network and collaborate with other NCOP networks as appropriate. Disseminating helpful and useful information to colleagues and stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Work co-operatively with the team to ensure that project deliverables are met. Provide progress reports against the project plan at regular intervals, advising the Programme Manager (Research and Evaluation) of areas of concern or note.
  • To comply with data protection legislation; keep up to date with policy around data collection, monitoring and evaluation and make recommendations to improve systems and processes accordingly.
  • To deputise where appropriate for the Programme Manager (Research and Evaluation)
  • Work co-operatively with the team to ensure that the required outcomes of the project are delivered.

  • Any appointment is generally made at the bottom of the salary range for the grade dependent upon experience and previous salary.
  • This is a full time post and is fixed termto 31 December 2018.
  • Annual leave entitlements are shown in the table below and increase after 5 years’ service. In addition, to the eight Bank Holidays, there are university discretionary days between Christmas and New Year. All leave, including bank holidays and discretionary days, is pro-rated for part time employees.
