Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, public relations, or a related field.
- 3-5 years or more serving as an on-air reporter and/or spokesperson capacity
- Very strong media relations skills, crisis management and strategic communications.
- Experience in school public relations or related field.
- Extremely strong writing skills in a variety of multimedia including website, social media, news releases, brochures, speeches and video scripts.
Primary Purpose:
Responsible for managing high-level communications between the district and media outlets (print, online, radio, etc.), and serve as the spokesperson for the district. Implement and supervise multiple social media communications initiatives and strategies.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as the District’s primary spokesperson and contact for the news media; develop and deliver key messages and statements, and obtain background information when working with multiple media outlets at once.
- Advise administrative staff when delivering messages to the media for the purpose of promoting a positive image of the District during times of crisis; provide support to campus personnel as needed during a crisis
- Work with administrators to strategically respond to media and ensure messaging is adequately aligned with the District’s goals and initiatives.
- Provide campus administrators training and guidelines on how to effectively promote their school and respond during emergency crises.
- Respond to emergency situations both during and after normal working hours for the purpose of receiving and conveying information needed for effective decision making.
- Coordinate media interviews for the purpose of keeping the media informed of the correct information concerning District activities and promote District-wide initiatives.
- Oversee the production and distribution of all news releases; arrange for press conferences as required.
- Respond to issues involving community concerns for the purpose of identifying the relevant issues and recommending or implementing a plan of action that will efficiently resolve the issue.
- Maintain and monitor the district’s social media presence including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, and Flickr and provide assistance as needed to departments/campuses with social media efforts; research and implement new social media as appropriate.
- Cultivate new communities and manage branded online social media communities.
- Prepare presentations on effective use of social media, and help develop training for staff and administrators on properly starting/maintaining campus and/or department social media pages; update social media guidelines as needed.
- Identify events, initiatives or district news that can be packaged into multimedia stories, including but not limited to web story, photography, video and social media.
- Assist with various photography and video projects including writing, editing and distribution.
- Assist with maintaining the district’s website including posting news releases and other department generated information; regularly review for accuracy and timeliness of information.
- Assist with leading daily editorial meetings to ensure weekly multimedia efforts are aligned with District’s core initiatives and action plans.
- Provide relevant content daily while tracking metrics and monitoring relevant conversations.
- Provide media monitoring reports on weekly/monthly basis.
- Assist with creating new website content, online features, print newsletters and other publications to promote specific initiatives to staff, students and/or community.
- Compose messages/letters on behalf of administration when requested.
- Work with Communications CampusLiaisons and develop a schedule to ensure they are consistently delivering campus events and staff/student achievements to your attention on a regular basis.
- Assist in the development and supervision of long and short range media relations and multimediaaction plans in relation to assigned responsibilities for the purpose of ensuring objectives are achieved in the most effective and timely manner.
- Attend meetings of the Board and serve as the point of contact for the media.
- Participate in meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars (e.g. district committees, seminars, conferences).
- Perform special projects as designated by the Director of Communications.
- Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours. District-wide travel to various locations. Moderate lifting and carrying.
