17 Jul 06 / Theo signed into ISCA1 today and EC did assessment. He is 62 years old and highly motivated to find work and develop new skills. Theo has almost 50 years experience as a Plain Machinist. He would like to develop his computer skills and will also consider other training. EC has found an Introduction to Computers course via Sunview Council,
3 hrs/pw for 6 weeks starting in mid August – $107 for concession card holders. EC will seek approval for training consultant regarding JobFill assistance. EC referred Theo to Julie for career counselling to explore some options. All of his experience is in the textile manufacturing industry which has largely moved overseas. EC also booked Theo into full JST with JobFill starting 31 July 2006. This discussion took place after the Activity Agreement was done, hence the activity has been handwritten and signed by EC and Theo.
19 Jul 06 / Machinist – have sent his resumé today for the above position.
31 Jul 06 / Theo has attended JST modules today being Welcome, Job Search Methods, Goals and Job Search Process. Theo has requested to be booked for further modules, including HJM, Canvassing, Interview Techniques and Telephone Techniques. He has completed Goals and Skills assessment exercises.
31 Jul 06 / Theo attended meeting. He has been looking very hard for jobs and came in with several he had printed off the touchscreen.
31 Jul 06 / He had started in JST this morning and had found it very useful. He is doing lots of cold calling and we discussed his approach to this. We printed resumés which he could leave with employers and also looked at the wording he was using. He told me he was telling people he lost his job. He had been put off when the company closed so we discussed the way he approached people which he was pleased about.

31 Jul 06 (continued) / Spoke to him about the WPA form. He was a bit put off by the format of the form so we looked at a him jotting down what he had been doing and filling out the form together. Gave him a notebook to put it into which he was pleased about. New appointment arranged.
9 Aug 06 / Theo has attended Interview Techniques module today. Module covered Interview Styles, Difficult Questions, Presentation and Communication at Interviews. Completed Interview Questions exercise which is on file and notes.
28 Aug 06 / Theo attended. He has been attending computer classes which he felt even though they were beginning classes they are above him with the language. He has learnt a lot but is finding it a bit difficult. Wants to learn the computer so he can email off resumés for positions he sees advertised.
Theo has kept the details of his job searching in a book which we transferred to the WPA form with him. He has kept records and taken cards from places he approached. He is doing a lot of cold calling and while he is out he often asks at clothing stores to get leads to follow up.
No internal jobs suitable at the moment but will keep following these up with him.
Agreement up to date. New appointment made.
29 Aug 06 / Theo came in and wanted to ask about the computer. Spent some time revising the keys and their functions that he learnt about at his course.
Another appointment was made for Friday where we can revise his computer skills. He is used to working with machines so picks up things quickly but some of the terminology is a struggle for him.
