Qualifications summary

CMI level 3 qualifications in First Line Management and Coaching and Mentoring are developed for supervisors and first line managers who have operational responsibility for a defined area of activity. They are designed to develop communication and motivational skills to help improve operational effectiveness and develop a sense of team/corporate identity.

Level 3 in First Line Management, and Level 3 in Coaching and Mentoring

Overview – Successful completion of the JNCO CLM v3 course has been accredited by CMI at two different, but linked, qualifications. The first is the CMI level 3 Diploma in First Line Management (QCF); the other is the CMI level 3 Award in Coaching and Mentoring (QCF) which may be awarded on the successful completion of a CMI External Assessment. The award of these qualifications demonstrates comprehensive knowledge, understanding and potential as a first line manager and leader.

Qualification Options

Option 1: No additional work option. By passing the JNCO CLM08 v3 course you will have achieved the criteria to be accredited with the CMI level 3 Diploma in First Line Management with recognition of all Group ‘A’ Units and 5 of the Group ‘B’ Units to a total of 67 QCF Credits (please see table below). There is no additional work for you to do. You may enrol for this option using the CMI Registration Form, ticking Option 1.

Additional work options. The CMI has agreed with your training authority to offer you the opportunity to capitalise on your learning by completing external assignments and submitting them to the CMI for external assessment (Option 2 and 3 below and available on the registration form). This will enable you to benefit from:

·  acquiring additional units

·  eligibility to use SLC to help pay fees; please seek advice from your local Learning Centre before registering for this qualification.

Option 2: Additional work required. Please note from the table below that you may elect to take Unit 3006. Learning support and assessment will be provided by CMI. ‘Recruitment and Selection’ is an important skill for the First Line Manager and contains valuable information for you (recruiting, interviewing, selecting, decision making) for service use and in seeking employment in the future. On achievement of Unit 3006 you will be awarded the CMI Level 3 Diploma in First Line Management with 73 QCF Credits (maximum credits). You may enrol for this qualification option using the CMI Registration Form, ticking Option 2.

Option 3: Additional work required. This is a CMI level 3 Award in Coaching and Mentoring with 7 QCF credits (please see bottom table). You may register for this award as a ’stand alone’ or in combination with Option 1 or Option 2. You will be required to take the CMI External Assessment for Unit 3011 ‘Principles, skills and impact of coaching and mentoring’ for which learning support and assessment will be provided by CMI.

Acquire these Qualifications. You have the option to register for any single option or a combination of options (see registration form). Proof of successful completion of your JNCO CLM training will be required to make you eligible for any of these qualifications. Complete the registration form, located on: www.managers.org.uk/mod (see below), indicating your choice. Allow 6 weeks or, if submitting work for assessment, 10 weeks for receipt of certification

Registration.

You have an 18-month window of opportunity, from date of course completion, to register for these qualifications. Register using the registration form on the CMI web, which you can download and either fax or post to the CMI (details on the form). Visit www.managers.org.uk/mod and click on CMI qualifications. Then scroll down to, and click on Army, then CLM 08 v3. Scroll down the table to the JNCO row and click on Download factsheet and Download registration form. Please complete the registration form in conjunction with this factsheet. Don’t forget to provide the remittance.

Acquiring the Completion Pack for External Assignments.

You will need username and password to download the Completion Pack, provided with complementary studying membership as part of the registration procedure. Once registered, you can re-enter the web site (as above) and click on Download completion pack. This will prompt you for your username and password, which will allow you to open and download. You have 9-months to complete the assignment; please contact CMI (see below) if you are experiencing problems meeting this deadline. If no work is submitted, CMI will default the qualification to Option 1 (CMI level 3 Diploma in First Line Management with 67 QCF credits). The additional cost incurred for assessment fees will not be reimbursed. Allow a minimum of 10 weeks from submission of your assignment, assuming a pass, for receipt of certification.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

These qualifications can be built upon to add further units and so presents excellent opportunity for Continuing Professional Development, essential in a for civilian employment context. As they are registered on the national Qualifications Credit Framework (QCF) they are readily recognised by civilian organisations.
