Other Service

My service goes beyond the UNG environment. In the summer of 2010 I lead a group of 22 to Leon, Nicaragua where we provided daily vacation Bible school for children and nightly lessons for adults. In the summer of 2012 my two sons and I spent six weeks at an orphanage/school in the jungle east of Port Harcourt, Nigeria, West Africa. We taught courses on Entrepreneurship for 7th, 8th, 10th, and 11th grade classes. Each class was divided up into companies of 3-5 students. We instructed them on wood working, welding, and business skills. They signed contracts, took out loans, purchased materials, produced products, sold the products for a profit, and spent the profit.

The 7th grade class sold 8 wooden safes. The 8th grade sold 6 church pews. The 10th grade made 3 rocking chairs. And the 11th grade made 5 desk chair combinations for a special education resource center. In our spare time my sons and I also completed 30 double desks for the primary school and finished four teacher’s desks. We also held a three day camp where 73 “kitchen chairs” were produced.
