COUNSELLOR – 1 (Full time position)

We are looking for a dedicated team player to be Counsellor (Full Time) in the Mumbai HIV/MDRTB Project for all interventions. Female counsellor is preferred for the counselling needs identified. She will be part of a team of 47 national staff and 4 expatriates in Mumbai.

Gross Salary: 24,387 INR per month (Non-negotiable) + Other Benefits

PURPOSE OF POST

·  Provide Psycho-social Support to /DS- and DR-TB patients and their families/care takers/buddies through counselling and support groups.

·  Liaison between Doctors without Borders India( supported hospitals for referral of patients.

·  Collaborate within the different components of the project, ensuring inter-disciplinary teamwork.

·  Promote the importance of counselling in care of DS- and DR-TB patients/PLWHA through example, networking, information exchange, and trainings.

·  Provide input in advocacy activities for DWBI Interventions.

TASK DESCRIPTION

·  Provide individual and group counselling sessions for DS and DR TB patients (adults and children), families and buddies (pre-treatment, at treatment initiation and follow up, including adherence counselling in collaboration with RNTCP staff when possible.

·  Conduct mental health assessment for all patients at baseline, (quarterly) during follow up, and if needed (suspicion, adherence issues etc.).refer to DRTB OPD committee psychiatrist.

·  Assist in social assessment for TB patients in collaboration with DWBI social worker

·  Provide health talks on DR-TB related topics in the TB OPD waiting areas in DWBI supported sites

·  Conduct communication skills and counselling trainings for staff at the Hospitals. .

·  Identify adherence problems in patients. Inform and share information with DWBI social worker, RNTCP health personal , relevant NGOs, and TISS counsellors if needed.

·  Mentor RNTCP staff in the supported hospitals on communication skills and counselling of TB patients.

·  Assist RNTCP hospital staff and Health Promotion staff in conducting health talks, support groups and awareness raising activities in the community

·  Collaborate with local NGOs and community based organisations (CBOs) in awareness raising activities and co-facilitate the dissemination of TB related messages.

·  Mentor and co-facilitate home visits for TB patients with the RNTCP staff and DWBI social worker/counsellor. Contribute to the assessment of health seeking behaviour of patients and community.

·  Identify TB patients’ needs in community, supported hospitals and report to Hospital and DWBI Managers..

·  Contribute to the creation and implementation of medium-term support plans, centred in patient’s needs, Collaborate in Patient Support trainings and mentoring activities

·  Participate in the creation and implementation of new counselling guidelines, IEC tools as well as training materials.

·  Collaborate with affiliated counsellors in order to identify patients’ needs and to provide supportive counselling for TB patients if needed

·  Report any issues related to infection prevention to Medical Activities Manager

·  Maintain confidentiality at all times.

·  Keep regular and accurate records of clients and counsellor activities monitoring records.

·  Contribute to identify factors defining adherence for TB patients in DWBI supported sites and experiences of succeeded adherence cases, in order to assess a new strategy for non-adherent patients.

·  Contribute to advocacy efforts for TB patients/PLWHA.

·  Attend lobbying activities, outside trainings, meetings when required.

·  Availability and flexibility in the case of DWBI emergency intervention.

·  When asked help in the organization of the meetings, trainings & other gatherings.

Requirements/Qualifications

·  Required Bachelors/Masters degree in psychology/ counselling/Social work

·  Essential, working experience of at least 3 years in related jobs, preferably in patient

support related activities and/or health promotion activities for TB/HIV

·  Desirable, working experience with DWBI or other NGOs.

·  Good working knowledge and skills with Microsoft Word/Excel/Power Point

·  Proficiency in English, Hindi and Marathi

·  Gender: Female counsellors are highly preferred for the counselling needs identified.
