Re:8.5 Monitoring Sponsorship and Advertising contracts 2015

______

Sponsorship (all net of GST)

Blackbaud$20,000 plus organisational membership

They pay monthly. This sponsorship was re-signed 17 months ago for another three years so we are in the middle stages of the second year. We have a very comprehensive working relationship with them and introducing the Raiser’s Edge data base system into the office at the cheapest price possible has helped that relationship. Basically we have spent nearly $30k in software, royalties and training on a donor management system which would cost any other charity close to $100K. It has a lot more grunt than we need but because of their sponsorship they would not countenance us using any other system. We are to be their role model here. Thus the $60k 3 year commitment has in fact being $30k in kind and another 30K in cash. It is a good deal for us and Phil has taken to this database like the dedicated geek he is. We meet regularly with Blackbaud and the vibes are good.

Everyday Hero$12,000 plus organisational membership

They are owned outright by Blackbaud but are treated as a separate company. This is into its final year of a three year contract and I hope but cannot guarantee they will renew. They have been concentrating on building up their profile in Australia and have neglected New Zealand but over the last few months they have been over here a lot. The main factor relating to their renewing is the impact the Spark Foundation’s free Givealittle service is having on their ability to make a living in New Zealand. I might get another year out of them but I doubt whether we will get a long term contract. It will be an annual review.

New Zealand Post$24,000 plus organisational membership (now $27,400)

Who knows what will happen with NZ Post. Since our March meeting our NZ Post liaison person Victoria Forrest has been made redundant. Together we managed to get our 2015 contract paid early (before she left) and we managed to get an addition $3,400 out of them. It was very complicated but the money is banked.

I am working on other contacts there but no one is taking ownership of FINZ. So this is a work in progress and I suspect they will not be renewing for 2016. I am not giving up and if there is a board member willing to assist me well…yes please.

Soar Print$23,000 plus organisational membership ($26,000)

This sponsorship is for $20,000 of printing pa plus $3,000 cash towards the dinner each year. This partnership has been renewed at the end of March 2015. I also went and saw him on Wednesday 10th June for a further print run of another $3,000 and he said yes. I still have to help his new business manager with some appointments within the charitable sector. Fred is actively trying to build up our awards dinner to something even more significant than it is and is willing to fund more (via print) if we approach him.

Fresco Advertising$15,000 plus organisational membership

This has been a very valuable relationship which gives FINZ open access to Fresco’s graphic design and website expertise. It has been a very profitable relationship for both parties with Fresco gaining a number of new clients from amongst our members. We recently reaffirmed this agreement but with the more recent added dimension with Sheridan joining our staff it is in the process of being amended to legally exclude her from any involvement and/or negotiations over this partnership. There IAC relationship is under threat and that will cause some ructions.

Duncan Cotterill $10,000 plus organisational membership.

From 1 April 2015. No cash but $10k’s worth of free legal advice in exchange to access via our advertising to our members. Current agreement is for a six month review to see if it works. We have exchanged confirming emails. Note this legal advice is not just to assist in any dispute resolution but also for policy development and advocacy - areas we have to get more involved in. This applies for FINZ, FINZ Education Trust and the IAC.

The difficulty coming up here is that Geoff Thompson our liaison person at DC is leaving the firm and that may make it somewhat a harder task to maintain. We have got to up our game here.

BDO $10,000 plus organisational membership.

Things have progressed well. We have signed an agreement which again is for $10k’s worth of accountancy advice both on meeting the costs of FINZ, FINZ Education Trust, IAC and any policy development and advocacy we require. This is being driven mainly by their tax and audit departments. We are getting ample and much valued assistance here.

Helix$2-3,000 plus organisational membership.

This is one of our longest relationships. Ron Parkin is Louise Parkin’s brother. They assist Phil with technology issues and also look after our data storage, our communications incl telephone and emails and all those sorts of things. What happens is that they charge us at cost and we give them the odd free advertisement. It is a small but useful relationship.

Pareto$13,000 plus organisational membership

This was meant to be for $10k but then we found they had already signed up to a $3k advertising contract. The $10k is for conference sponsorships and includes up to 5 registrations. They have never been this generous before but Sean will use it to the utmost to get to his audience. This is listed as a 2015 Conference Sponsorship

RobeJohn$12,000 plus organisational membership

Now no cash here. What they are doing is bringing Alan Clayton to our Conference. Alan charges $6k a day to speak. We have him for two days. With his travel costs and accommodation we are talking about a total cost of over $16k to us. Well we have paid $3.8k for him and Leo Orland to be at our conference. This is a good deal. He is one of the best. Again this is a Conference Sponsorship.

Xponential$3,000 plus organisational membership

They paid us $3k for assisting sponsoring the CEO’s Forum. It was a great new venture and Craige Gravestein played his part to perfection. He should have done well there. I am hoping for more from him there.

Harbour Asset Management$12,000

They were the lead Sponsor of the CEO’s Forum. It went very well and they were pivotal to its success not only with their money but with their involvement and contribution. They understand charities and their fundraising needs. Their contract has a few ongoing advertising obligations in it but I have put all their sponsorship into the Conference budget.

ASB BankNothing yet.

This is critical to us. I have talked to them about $20k sponsorship and they are definitely interested in our sector. Nothing can happen until 1 July this year and I need to go wooing them again ASAP.

DPSNothing yet.

Need a replacement for Flo2cash. Saw them last year but they were not that interested. But I think I was talking to the wrong person. I need to get a decent door opener here and then get to them.

Of the above this gives us (if they all come through) $87.4k in cash sponsorship and $73k in kind sponsorship along with $3k in advertising which totals $163.4k. I still need another $30k in sponsorship to meet the 2015 budget. The ASB bank and DPS might do it but I need another just to be sure. It is going to be hard.

Advertising (all net of GST)

It has been a good year in signing up advertising agreements. We need $60k in advertising this year - plus another $45k in exhibit booths at conference. So in our advertising contractual arrangements this year we need to sell $105k. We will get there.
