Week One: Application

Pre Video Questions

1. What work out equipment or home improvement equipment do you have around your house that you don’t use? Why don’t you use it?

2. What benefit does the equipment have for us if we don’t use it? How does it actually work against us?

Post Video Questions

1. Do you agree that Catholicism is often reduced to going to Church and receiving sacraments? Why is this mentality dangerous to our relationship with God and relationship with others?

2. Read aloud Matthew 7:21 a couple of times. What is your reaction to that verse?

3. Why do we say we don’t have enough time to put Jesus’ teachings into practice?

4. What is one teaching of Jesus you know you should apply but have resisted applying because it feels too hard? Play the movie. What will happen if you build your life on sand and fail to apply Jesus’ teaching.

5. What can you do this week to apply one of Jesus’ teachings to your life?

Week Two: Forgiveness

Pre- Video Questions

1. Today’s application is forgiveness. What comes to your mind when you hear about the topic of forgiveness?

2. Do you think forgiveness is a value in our culture? Why or why not?

Post Video Questions

1. Our natural reaction is to get mad at the forgiven servant. Why is that?

2. Read aloud Matthew 18:34-35. What makes this teaching so difficult? Why is it hard to forgive?

3. Who (from past or present) do you need to forgive from your heart?

4. On a scale of 1-10, how deep is the hurt you need to forgive them? What steps do you need to take to really release them from their debt?

5. How does remembering we are forgiven servants help us to forgive others?


Week Three: Confession

1. When you think of confession what is the first thing that comes to your mind?

2. What were you taught was the purpose or the “why” of confession as a child?

1. How does viewing confession as a way to bring about healing change your attitude towards confession?

2. Read James 5:16. What is the biggest obstacle to confessing our sins to one another? What are the possible consequences of concealing our sins?

3. Who are people you trust enough to confess your sins to them and know they will pray for you and help you be healed?

4. What do you need to confess? Who do you need to tell?

5. How can you make confession more of a spiritual discipline?

Week Four: Encouragement

1. What does the word encourage mean to you?

2. Who do you know is a natural encourager?

1. When did someone say something to you that encouraged you? What impact did it make on your life?

2. Rate yourself on a scale of 1-10 as an encourager. Why do you score yourself as you do?

3. Tom said that if you are a boss, a teacher or a parent, the people under your authority either see you as an encourager or discourager, there is no neutral. Do you agree with that statement? Why or why not?

4. Who is someone you need to encourage in your life? What ability do you see in him/her? How can you encourage him/her?

5. Who are you most tempted to criticize? Is your criticism becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy? How can you become more encouraging to that person?

Week Five: Trust

2. How do you usually respond when there is a gap between what you expect and what is delivered at home, at work and with friends?

3. With whom have you grown suspicious and you need to sit down and have a conversation to build trust?

4. Do you agree that suspicion communicates rejection? Why or why not?

5. Jesus went to great lengths to reestablish a relationship with Peter after he denied him. What does that model for us in our strained relationships? Do you see any application to your own life?

Week Six: Rest

2. How often do you get to do it?

1. Do you have a designated Sabbath or day of rest? What can you do to make one?

2. Why do you think God put such an emphasis on the Sabbath?

3. What would God say about your schedule right now? Is your pace sustainable or are you stressed out and over committed?

4. Do you believe God will take responsibility for what you let go of on your day of, that in fact you will find yourself more productive by taking a day off? Why or why not?

5. What is one action step you can take so that experience the Sabbath?
