RE: Job Application

June 2006

Dear Sir/Madame,

My experience as a full time student in Computer Science at the University of Toronto has been excellent preparation and training for tackling programming and software development problems, as well as complex theoretical problems in Computer Science. Some of my notable course projects include:

Internet
·  Created a Multi-User, online Checkers Game using HTML, JavaScript and CSS
·  Implemented a query engine using SOAP and WSDL to search both amazon.com and google.com automatically
Numerical Programming
·  Implemented quartic spline interpolation for MATLAB
Systems Analysis
·  Large project involving requirements specification and analysis, process modeling, and design documentation / Java
·  Created an HTML parser to verify correctness of HTML code, with a Graphical User Interface
C/C++
·  Created a UNIX Web Server using sockets and fork
·  Designed and developed a fully functional ray tracer
·  Implemented sophisticated graphics algorithms such as Image Inpainting, Field Morphing, and Pyramid Blending
·  Created a 3D engine and animation tool using OpenGL

In addition to my extensive coursework experience, I have since been able to develop a website for the Caribbean Students Group at U of T (www.uweetc.com) which features Java Servlets, JavaScript, CSS, and a full MySQL database. Some servlets that I have developed include a picture gallery tool with comment posting, mailing list and database administration tools, FTP-SQL Synchronization tools, and a fully automatic email tool, integrated into a secure section of the website. The email tool is particularly notable as it integrates JavaScript, Java Servlets, and SQL technologies to allow delivery of email to addresses stored in the database, each one mail merged, and with real time progress feedback.

Complimenting my interest in internet programming, my interest in Computer Graphics has led me to develop over the years a company in Trinidad and Tobago, Ottley Kreations, where we provide graphics services using a full Visual Effects production pipeline: we are now able to do filming of live plates, using Blue/Green screens and chromakey technology to seamlessly compose moving camera shots with motion matched CG plates.

Through my experience as director of Ottley Kreations, I have developed exceptional leadership, problem solving, and time management skills. I have done a considerable amount of research and have developed excellent analytical skills. I have developed the ability to work independently under severe time pressure. I have managed to overcome considerable technical obstacles to implement our visual effects pipeline, including management of a network of Linux, Windows and Macintosh systems.

I believe that my experience and well rounded skill set, my academic achievements (an ‘A’ Grade in CSC418: Computer Graphics, as well as A’s in programming courses CSC207and CSC209, and a 3.1 CGPA) in Computer Science and passion for computer graphics and internet programming make me a qualified candidate for your Software Developer position. As a recent graduate, I am available immediately.

After you have reviewed the attached resume and demoreel, which is a collection of some of my work at Ottley Kreations, I would be delighted to further discuss any career opportunities.

Sincerely,

Justin Ottley
