Course Description: Biology is devoted to the study of living things and their processes. Throughout the year this course provides and opportunity for students to develop scientific process skills, laboratory techniques, and an understanding of the fundamental principles of living organisms. Students will explore biological science as a process, cell structure and function, genetics and heredity, evolution and classification, diversity of living organisms and their ecological roles, and an introduction to animal structure and function.

Notebook: You will need to keep an organized binder for this class. Your binder should be organized by section.

  • General- with stamp sheet, bathroom passes, Lab Rules

  • Labs and Worksheets
  • Extra paper

Homework: Homework/ classwork will be stamped on stamp sheets and will be turned in at the end of the week.

Late Work: You will be given 3 late work passes for the entire semester. They cannot be used for labs or projects. Late work will be accepted for 50% credit after these have been used up until the day of the unit test. Save these for emergencies.

Tests: A unit test will be given at the end of each unit. If you are absent on the day of a test or quiz, please plan to make it up the day you return either at lunch or after school.If you are in sports or clubs, please plan ahead when possible. A cumulative final exam will be given at the end of each quarter.

Extra Credit: There are no extra credit assignments given.

Suggested Supplies: Highlighters, a red pen, colored pencils, index cards

Required Supplies:Every day to class you are required to bring your covered text book, and a planner (NPHS provides you with a free one) and you Biology notebook and a pen or pencil.

Tardies: If you are not in your seat anddoing the Cerebrum Starter when the bell rings, you will be counted tardy. The school policy on tardies will be followed.

Absences: You will have one day per excused absence to make up any missing work, labs, or tests. It is up to you to schedule these arrangements. The school policy for unexcused absences will be followed. *It is your responsibility to check my website:

Cheating/ Plagiarism: Cheating and plagiarism will not be tolerated. The district policy will be strictly followed. Please review the academic honesty policy.

Cell Phones: If I see a cell phone, iPod, or anything similar, I will take it. The schools cell phone policy will be strictly enforced.

Bathroom: You will get 4 bathroom passes for the entire term. These passes are not transferable to friends, they will not be replaced if lost or stolen, and you will not get extra credit for unused passes. For special arrangements, see me.

Classroom Expectations:

  • Students are expected to be in their seat and ready when the bell rings.
  • Materials (textbook, pencil, paper, and notebook) must be brought to class each day.
  • Turn in your work on time.
  • The laboratory or room must be clean at the end of the period before leaving.
  • Treat everyone with respect.
  • Follow the instructions gives by teacher or lesson.
  • All school rules will be followed as stated in the student handbook.
  • All safety rules as stated in the Lab Safety Agreement must be followed. (You must sign and return in order to participate in labs.)
