HH1003 review
I’m not going to get into any thing technical about this model or any model for that matter. I’m looking for something that is visually appealing, a good paint and markings application and parts that fit well. Just the general things most average collectors will look for and appreciate. I’ll leave any technical points of view up to others. Since this is a pre-production model I received it in a plain white box so I cannot comment on the packaging or the graphics.
Hobby Master has delivered another excellent model of the Huey. This one represents an RAAF version and comes with a nice paint job and super markings. The colors are very eye appealing, white, yellow and green. There is no wash or panel lines on the model.
This small model has a lot of metal and feels to have a nice weight for its size. The elevators and tail rotor are plastic as are the landing skids. The main rotor is metal and has been revised to get rid of the band that was on each blade on previous models. The thing about the main rotor is it has a slight wobble to it when you spin it or just move it. This has been mentioned to Hobby Master and I’m sure future releases will have this corrected. Sitting in your display case it will look great because there is no sign of the wobble. This is a very minor sore point and doesn’t really detract from the helicopter.
Looking through the windscreen you can see a good layout of the cockpit with instruments. The windows are made of clear plastic and don’t show any signs of distortion or flaws.
There is a display stand provided with this model and it looks fabulous perched on top. Personally I like it on the stand because it seems to give it a more “in flight look”.
The fit and finish are very good with no unreasonable amount of space or gaps between parts. As I already mentioned the main rotor has a slight wobble but other than that everything is fine. If you collect Hueys or collect Aussie aircraft this will be an excellent addition to your display.
