SDMC Meeting Minutes – October 28, 2015

There were no votes taken because we did not have a quorum. Seven persons were present and eight is needed for a vote.

The dates for the meeting for the 2015-2016 school year were set as follows:

October 28, 2015 after school

November 18, 2015 during day

January 6, 2016 after school

February 17, 2016 during the day

March 30, 2015 after school

April 27, 2015 during the day

May 11, 2015 after school

It was noted that the drawer beneath where people sign in needs to be cleaned up. Many files are empty and several are not in order. The “ARF,” a request for an item to be placed on the agenda is one of the forms to go in here. The ARF is also on the school website.

We still have to elect a vice president and a secretary for our SDMC.

It was pointed out that the “Advanced” for STAAR math from last year has been established by TEA. Teachers feel that students were motivated by these medals and that our current 4th & 5th graders who are at Sutton should be awarded these medals if they get an “advanced” in other.

Three other items were shortly discussed but were not voted on agenda because there was not a forum.

1.  A change in the planning time to assist with 5th grade dismissal

2.  Increasing the number of colors of the school uniform from one, red, to three, perhaps navy blue, red, and green. Other colors were also discussed.

3.  A spirit day was proposed, weekly or monthly, to allow students to wear T-shirts representing students’ activities.

Another item discussed was logistics surrounding the new locks that were installed and will be used throughout the day once all staff have received the white pass card. These will probably be distributed next Wednesday, November 4, 2015.

Ms. Cripps-Rains pointed out that the handicapped restrooms that have been set up for teachers are illegally labeled. The signs designating or limiting handicapped stalls to just teachers must be removed.
