Listen with Care, Fall in Delight

Contact Improvisation 8-Week Series with Sophia Rog at The Movement Workshop (former Yoga Moves), 825 Early St.

Monday evenings, 5:30 to 7, beginning Feb. 16th

Contact Improvisation (CI) is an improvised dance practice based on the communication between two or more moving bodies attuning to the intrinsic movement principles of gravity, momentum and presence. CI dances can be subtle and meditative, athletic and wild, and everything in between, making it a unique form that enables literally anybody to safely practice joyful disorientation and sensory connection. CI is widely used as a choreographic tool in contemporary dance and is a potent complement to all physical practices including the pedestrian movements of our everyday lives. This open-level class will offer basic principles and classic exercises in Contact Improvisation—rolling, falling safely, sharing weight—as well as ideas for enriching your CI dance (whether you are a brand new CI-er or long-time lover of the form) with play, expression, innovation, choice, and delight. Contact Improvisation is a form that easily flows out of the dance studio or class and into our day-to-day lives—enriching movement, awareness, and relational existence with everything around and within us. The practice of improvisation holds endless wisdom and lessons in beauty, acceptance, and imagination. $13/drop-in

$10/class when you pre-register and pay for 4 classes

Note: No one turned away for lack of funds! Please come dance with us, no matter what you can pay. For more info or to pre-register, email or call 563 321 1757.

Beyond Stillness: Introduction to MOSI with James Martin

·  Friday, February 20, 2015

11:00 AM to 1:00 PM

·  THE STUDIO

332 Camino del Monte Sol, Santa Fe, NM

Free. No Fee.
Voluntary donations welcomed to cover venue cost.

This is a class for complete beginners in MOSI as well as those with very minimal MOSI experience.

MOSI (pronounced moh-zee) is the acronym for Mindfulness Oriented Somatic Inquiry, which is a synthesis of various contemporary somatics (embodiment) practices with the ancient practice of mindfulness meditation. MOSI is mindful somatics.

In this class we will mindfully explore present moment embodied experience in the six MOSI modes of Stillness, Movement, Listening, Voice, Touch and Vision. Stillness and Movement will be given more weight of attention in this particular class, with spontaneous and improvisational Movement being our main focus.

Because the mode of Touch is a sensitive and challenging one for many people, allow us to reassure you that all giving and receiving of Touch will be fully voluntary and with clear boundaries decided by each participant. Touch will be a minimal exploration in this class and is generally explored by more advanced students of MOSI.

Please wear clothing which allows for fluid, flowing, free movement.

No previous experience necessary. RSVP at http://www.meetup.com/Mindful-Somatics-Santa-Fe
