How to create a tri-fold brochure
with Microsoft Publisher

Your teacher has specified that you will be creating a tri-fold brochure. This means that the brochure will have 3 panels front and back that you will need to use for text, images and specific information.

This guide will take you through the basics of setting up your brochure step-by-step

  1. Open Microsoft Publisher
  1. In the left hand column, click on Publications for Print and select Brochures.
Since you are creating an informational brochure, click on Informational Brochure and browse through the different options available for styles, shapes and designs!

***When you find a layout you like, double click on it!***

  1. The first window that pops up says Personal Information, just click Cancel at the bottom of the window.

  1. Now we are ready to begin!
Notice at the bottom of your screen there are 2 page markers;Page 1 is the outside of the brochure, Page 2 is the inside of the brochure.
(Brochure layouts are funny because you have pages folding into one another, so make sure you take note that the front of your brochure is all the way on the right of Page 1, and the inside flap (the one that folds in) is all the way on the left of Page 1)

  1. A few tools you are going to want to use…
Zoom: You want to Zoom in so that you aren’t squinting to see what the text says, and then you can always zoom out to see your brochure as a whole
Spell check: Make sure you run a spell check before printing your brochure!
  1. To edit text that is on the brochure, all you need to do is click inside of the text box, highlight and then type the information you want to include.

  1. To insert a picture: 1st, click on the picture that is already on the brochure (the one that has nothing to do with your project) and click delete on your keyboard.
After you have already collected and found the pictures you want to use, you can either Copy and Paste (if the file is open on the computer) or if you have saved the picture selectInsert>Picture>From File

  1. You will probably have to resize the picture to fit on your brochure panel, notice when your picture is selected there are white dots with black outlines in the corners and the midpoints of the outside rectangle. Click and drag on any of these dots to resize, rotate, skew, etc.

\

You will also notice a Picture Bar that pops up as soon as you place a picture into your brochure. This bar allows you to crop, add contrast, adjust the brightness, put a border on your picture, etc.

  1. How to change your overall color scheme:

In the left side bar of your screen, locate Apply a color scheme, here you can choose from a variety of preset colors.
(You can change your overall color scheme, or change it manually by selecting it and editing the color at the top of your screen)

  1. Once you have completed the outside of your brochure, click on Page 2 (at the bottom of your screen) and start work on the inside!
