What is Home Energy Assistance?

Home Energy Assistance is a program that provides financial assistance to low income families to help pay the costs of heating, medically necessary cooling and energy related emergencies such as essential furnace repairs. Homeowners and tenants who pay for their own heat as well as renters who pay for their heat as part of their rent may be eligible.

WHAT DO I NEED TO APPLY FOR

HOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE?

When applying for Home Energy Assistance you will be asked to provide documents concerning your situation. if you have any of the documents listed below bring them with you when you come to the office. If you do not have them the worker will help you obtain the ones you need.

PROOF OF HOME OWNERSHIP

BIRTH CERTIFICATES

SOCIAL SECURITY CARDS

RENT RECEIPTS

SCHOOL ATTENDANCE VERIFICATION FOR CHILDREN

GAS, ELECTRIC AND/OR FUEL OIL BILL

TELEPHONE BILL

PROOF OF ALL INCOME AND RESOURCES

MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE

DIVORCE PAPERS

CUSTODY PAPERS

DOCTOR'S SLIP WITH EXPECTED DATE OF DELIVERY IF YOU ARE PREGNANT

SOCIAL SECURITY OR SSI AWARD LETTER

DEATH CERTIFICATE

WHAT ARE MY RESPONSIBILITIES?

•To help the agency obtain information needed to determine you eligibility and amount of benefits.

•To notify the welfare agency when you or any family member moves, gets a job or experiences any change of income, resources or circumstances.

NOT MEETING ANY OF THESE RESPONSIBILITIES COULD MEAN THAT YOUR HOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE WILL BE DENIED, REDUCED OR STOPPED.

WHERE DO I APPLY?

The Home Energy Assistance Program is administrated by La Casa De Don Pedro. Application for HEA will be taken by La Casa De Don Pedro. In most instances those individuals receiving WFNJ/TANF/GA/Food Stamp benefits will automatically receive a HEA benefit, if eligible. However, in other instances individuals receiving public assistance will have to apply at La Case De Don Pedro. All individuals receiving public assistance should speak with their Family Service Worker. The addresses and telephone numbers of the welfare and food stamp offices are:
