At first appointment patients meet with a junior hospital Doctor, NCHD, (Non Consultant Hospital Doctor). The patient will also meet with a Consultant Neurologist or Senior Doctor covering the clinics for that day.

Will the new hospital have all my notes?

Provided that all medical notes and results are forwarded by the referring Doctor to the Neurology Department they should be available for a patient’s 1st consultation at the Mater Hospital. How often will I need to attend the clinic?

The regularity of clinic attendance varies for every individual and depends on many factors; seizure activity and also response to medication changes.

After first consultation subsequent visits could be a 6-12 months follow up.

Will I see the same staff at each visit?

NCHDs (non consultant Hospital Doctors) change every 3 months.

Specialist Registrars change annually.

Epilepsy Nurses (Nurse Specialists/cANP/ANP (candidate Advanced Nurse Practitioners) and Consultants are the more consistent faces at clinics over the years.

This can vary, ideally allow 2 hours for clinic attendance. Time given for OPD (outpatientsDepartment) is registration time not actually seeing time with clinical staff. This could be shorter or sometimes longer.
